Good Charlie Parker/Miles Davis albums
I'm having a hard time finding good albums by Charlie Parker or Miles Davis, does anyone know the names of any good albums by either of them?

Re: Good Charlie Parker/Miles Davis albums
Well you could always get the album that THEY recorded together. Its been released under the name "Charlie Parker and Miles Davis". Check it out!
To give you a more segregated answer, literally EVERYTHING by Charlie Parker was great, but MY personal favorite are Diz And Bird At Carnegie Hall, and Summit Meeting At Birdland.
For Miles, well thats a really loaded question, but the sound you are probably looking for is most easily found in Milestones, Kind Of Blue, and maybe Nefertiti or Sorceror.

Re: Good Charlie Parker/Miles Davis albums
Coming in here, I was about to say that mentioning those two right next to each other was only remotely acceptable because of the fact that they were both jazz players and then I saw Sam's comment about their album together. I never knew they had recorded one. I am definitely going to get that.

Re: Good Charlie Parker/Miles Davis albums
Charlie PArker taught Miles how to play. When Miles was a kid his dad worked for years and years to get the money to send him to Juiliard. Miles went, dropped out and found Charlie Parker, and basically pestered him until Charlie agreed to teach him.
Miles's first gig was playing trumpet for Parker's band in 1944. And he was GOOD, as good technically as Dizzy actually.

No way. Miles was never a virtuoso, and I find it hard to believe that he could even come close Dizzy on a technical level.

Re: Good Charlie Parker/Miles Davis albums
That's really cool. I never knew that before. Damn, I like coming here. How far did they're playing together go?
And I personally find it kind of odd to hear that he was as good technically as Dizzy. I could see in terms of composition or overall creativity (the main created numerous genres and is indirectly responsible for hip-hop, for Christ's sake), but the technicality issues sits funny.

Re: Good Charlie Parker/Miles Davis albums
He may not have demonstrated it later in his career, but when he was a kid he could really burn on that trumpet (and still could later, just chose not to!).

Re: Good Charlie Parker/Miles Davis albums
i like miles after bitches brew.
charlie parker was old school, same as john coltrane.
miles took off and left them far far behind.
If you don't like fusion, then you really miss what miles was about.
In a silent way is a nice album.
A tribute to jack armstrong is pretty cool.
in my opinion, look at the date and anything post bitches brew should be worthy.

Re: Good Charlie Parker/Miles Davis albums
you can't compare bird, miles, or trane. Its like comparing apples and oranges, they were all great musicians.
and to say miles left bird and trane behine is stupid. Have you ever heard trane's later stuff? in my opinion its better than any fusion album miles did.
fyi: speaking of diz, i played a concert with jon faddis over the weekend. That guy is pretty sick.
