Ether
My dear totse peers, would someone please direct me into making the popular, handy, yet dangerous substance known to man as ether. Please feel free to move this thread if it is not in the right forum. Your help is appreciated.

Re: Ether
There have been many a thread about this in the past
search up bltc and you'll find something.
The jist of it is, you get some starting fluid, mix it with water 50/50 in a big plastic jug (eg. 2L pop bottle) the diethyl ether will seperate from the not so good stuff, punch a hole in the bottom, drain the water and junk (drain a little ether too just to be safe) and then put your ether in a suitable container, or use on the spot.
Have fun.

Re: Ether
No, asshole, water will NOT fucking seperate a god damn thing. Go back to fucking high school and learn some basic physics.
The only to obtain ether is to either distill it from ethanol and H2SO4 or to distill it from starter fluid. Either way, you need a distillation kit, so if you don't have one, don't bother. In can be had in stores in some countries, but not the US.
And I am so fucking tired of hearing about ether extracted water. Anyone who says that shit works is a fucking moron. Seriously. I can't fucking believe this shit is still going around. Fucking idiots.

Re: Ether
Wait...... You're separating ether.... which has a polar C-O bond in it, from hydrocarbons with all C-H bonds.... right? That would make ether the more polar of the two, and therefore soluble in water...
Ether's solubility in water is 69g/L and hydrocarbons like pentane or heptane are immiscible.

Re: Ether
you're right I'm afraid
I was just repeating what I'd heard, my bad.
And you don't need to be such a fucking troll about it.
That was at stupid n00b, not HeaT

Re: Ether
Well you could verify shit before you post it, instead of dragging this myth on and on, making yourself look stupid as fuck, and confusing the shit out of other retards like yourself.

Re: Ether
Are you sure that's a myth? Ether IS more polar than hydrocarbons, so water would pull a little Et2O and no hydrocarbons. Though inefficient, it works.
I've heard people say it works the OTHER WAY (less ether than petrol), just because Jam said it.
You need to STFU and stop being so fucking offensive about someone saying a viable (though low yielding) method, just because someone you hate introduced it. Grow the fuck up.

Re: Ether
Viable my ass. What good is having water with a tiny bit of ether? And people say to drain the water, and keep the rest, which is nothing but heptane and wet ether. This whole thing is nothing but a fucking waste and you know it. Don't try to stretch, and theorize shit, you know it's fucking bunk. And don't even start talking shit to me motherfucker, I remember when you were just starting out, and I was damn nice to you. This thread is fucking retarded and you know it. Stop playing devils advocate just for shits and giggles. The OP is an idiot, and I'll say whatever the fuck I want to him, and there's not a god damned thing you can do about it, so if you don't like my posts, hit the fucking ignore button dipshit.

Re: Ether
Does starter fluid have any azeotropic or distillation difficulties?
Also what about the safety aspects? Ether vapours :0
I might try this in the next week or 2. I was thinking a water bath should be sufficient as Diethyl Ether boils at ~35C whereas hydrocarbons like heptane (~99C) are much higher.
Is there any other common additives I should know about?

Re: Ether
I'm not trying to offend you, I'm just sick of everyone FLIPPING OUT over this method just because some dumb motherfucker brought it up first.
I've got respect for you, I'm not trying to offend you, once again. I'm just saying that it works IN THEORY and could be used (with weak effects)
But why bother when you can distill it in warm outdoor temps (especially with solar radiation)
