Let me start off by saying obviously, I don't plan on actually fighting a riot cop. I'm not a idiot. It's just an idea I had.

But watching a thing on the news about riot police at some kids massive party got me thinking...

Riot police don't tend to meet that much resistance, and when the do, the cop next to them just beats on the attacker. But if you happened to get a riot cop one on one, how would you go about it?

Personally I would throw something at the cop to make him block, then charge him as fast as I can. I would keep my head down and my hands up with my elbows in to protect my head and ribs, because I only plan on letting him get one hit in if that. If he went for my knee I would raise my leg and check it, a shot to the shin is still better than the knee. I would push him off balance then continue to rush foward and grab him in the clinch and yank his head around visciously and knee him. Because at this range there isn't much you can do with a baton. After almost ripping his head off I would hopefully throw him to the ground and just stomp. If he tried to tackle me when I was clinching him I know how to sprawl so I should be alright.

Obviously I this most likely wouldn't go to plan and my ass would get handed to me, but still.

I didn't post this in BI, because I don't plan on doing this, nor do I suggest anyone else attempt this. Ever.

Alternativly you could throw a rocks at him screaming 'Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!'

Petrol bombs.

One on one? I'd try and get him on the floor- they often carry a lot of weight (SWAT types routinely carry about 60lbs of duty crap), and that riot padding isn't the most manueverable stuff.

This is one of those things you're better off not thinking about.

The petrol bomb thing might work in the short run, but depending on how they're running the riot you might get a nasty shock.

I'd shoot him.

If no weapons, I'd try to get him on the ground like Random Looney said, then employ stomps and soccer kicks to the head (I'd wear steel toe boots). If I go down with him, I'd use joint locks because they wear armor and strikes with the hands aren't going to be too effective.

I saw an awesome video from some soccer riot where this guy kicks a riot cop in the head and knocks him unconscious.

In order of preference:
(most favored first)

-Set him on fire (applicable to many simultaneously)
-beat his right hand with a heavy object
-Tackle and take-down
-Bucket of super-cooled acetone (-50°C)

Problem with riot cops is that they don't operate alone. Their mutual support tends to make them much more effective than unorganized rioters, even when greatly outnumbered. They know it, too.

As Parallax said, your best chance would be to just shoot one. Preferably from far away with a high-powered rifle.

dont they have, you know, body armour? you're going to need a big gun.
