A regular asked me to raise this Re: New section for totse
And since it was a topic of my own creation I thought why not?
https://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2002354
A request for a tutorial section for totse. All the info is there. I dunno how many mods here check out the suggestion box but that's where it is.
Would appreciate feedback. I have no idea how workable this is, just putting the concept out there.
The thread has already gained some support if that matters in the slighest.

Re: A regular asked me to raise this Re: New section for totse
I think that would fit into DIY, to be honest. Centralizing all the various thread links into a sticky will be difficult though. Although I suppose DIY could be split into two subforums, one for the tutorials section and the other for general tips and help like it is now set up for.
That would make it easy to post the tutorials and a sticky at the top so you can navigate them all based on subject areas of course leaving them all open for input. It also need not even comprise stuff like pipe/bongmaking and the general DIY banter, but would help out with the "how do I do X" that T&T get alot of.
I had an expectations thread I posted in DIY once that tried to encourage people to do this very thing once they got done with their various projects.
Just my $0.02 in the mod forum drink machine for my Coke. :D
EDIT: Maybe even go deeper and the Tutorials section would be a node for several forums for each area of work. Of course, something like that would obviously necessitate moderators of each representative persuasion, such as technlogy, DIY, body, etc if need be.
Or perhaps the Tutorials section not even be connected to DIY at all and simply a node for the various forums.
Meh, just some brainstorming.

Tutorials should be in the text files, should they not?
Argon, fetch me a mod-Coke too.

Re: A regular asked me to raise this Re: New section for totse
I think a forum like that could be exceptionally usefull.
How do I get blood out of a carpet?
How do I get rid of mould on walls?
A kind of housewifey usefull forum like that would be great.
So many questions, so few answers..

I'm not clear on this suggestion.
You want a forum to explain things to people?
Wouldn't this sort of thing fit into Spurious or DIY?

Posting a serious thread in SG..?
I thought DIY was more a woodwork N powertools type forum, not a forum you'd ask for tips on how to make your linen nice and fresh in..

Re: A regular asked me to raise this Re: New section for totse
I think a Tutorial Forum, separate from all the other forums, would work best. However, we already have a shit ton of forums, and do we really need another one? If it is easier to just make it a subforum, then I definitely think that it would best fit in the DIY forum.
I mean, if you're trying to get blood out of a carpet, aren't you doing it yourself? If you're trying to get rid of mould on walls, again, you're doing it yourself ;)
"vinegar and baking soda, dear" *Kim and Aggie*Up until a week ago, that would have gone right over my head, but I've been watching a lot of BBC America lately :D

Re: A regular asked me to raise this Re: New section for totse
I don't really think a full forum is needed.
Perhaps a nice little write up; a collaboration of various respected members should be posted as an announcement at the top of the forum list?

Re: A regular asked me to raise this Re: New section for totse
I was thinking a full forum so people know when they go there that there is going to be some guides there instead of hit and miss.
I was thinking like
BI = Here's a video of me proving that doing xxxxxx to a vending machine won't make it spit products out
Tech Forums = Here's a video capture of how to hack firefox to perform quicker
BLTC = Heres how a N20 cracker works for all those who have ever asked
OI = This is how to cook a steak medium well and how to tell you did it right
TGO = I made a video on how to propagate a new plant from and existing one for everyone
DIY is self explainatory
I can't be arsed doing the others
And as for the textfiles and written guides, well I've said it once and I'll say it again "A picture says a thousand words" - Why try explaining in detail how something looks - the colour, the physical attributes, how it should look at the beginning, middle and end - when a few photo tells you this.
Anyway...bleh :p

Re: A regular asked me to raise this Re: New section for totse
I cant encourage people to post photos for the guide unless they have a dedicated server for hosting the pics. Pictures are damn nice, but if thats all the guide amounts to, what happens when the poster goes through and spring cleans his photobucket account?

Re: A regular asked me to raise this Re: New section for totse
When I suggested the suggestion box, I put foreward the idea that it be a suggestion/help/something or rather forum. But by help, I mean totse.com things, like how to view certain information, how to's and such...
