Making a gun, with your bare hands.
For any gunsmiths out there. People in 3rd world countries do this, so ofcourse it's possible.
The first guy to ever make a revolver did it, so it's possible.
Not that I'm planning to, but for curiositys sake how would one make a revolver? Bare hands meaning, ofcourse with drills and things, but nothing too industrial/expensive/out of reach for the common man.
Shoot! Literally.

Re: Making a gun, with your bare hands.
You can do alot of metal working with hand tools. It just takes longer.

This guy completed an AR lower from a casting using just hand tools and a drill.

Re: Making a gun, with your bare hands.
Yeah but,
What materials would be needed? How the hell do the little kids out in afghanistan/pakistan/genericstan do it?
This is pretty interesting, and I'd really love to know. ^^

Re: Making a gun, with your bare hands.
I'm thinking an auto loader would probably be easier than a revolver, you don't have to worry about making sure the 6 chambers are perfectly aligned for one thing.
Probably easier still would be something like the sten gun since it wouldn't be as fiddly as a pistol, and IIRC it was designed to be made by people with little to no metal work skills. Correct me if I'm wrong, i remember reading it was designed like this for mass production during WWII by women in factories.
I know you can get blue prints of the Sten and an AR-15 lower pretty easy on google, no doubt there are more but i just haven't been arsed looking for them.

The right kind of metal and knowledge of how the guns work and how to build the parts. Do some google searches for home gunsmithing and see what kind of books your library has. Guns aren't magic, they are just parts put together right.

Re: Making a gun, with your bare hands.
If you had the time and skill you could make pretty much anything with some files/rasps and hand drills. I have seen the weapons that the gooks made in Vietnam. They look pretty nice for what they are and the tools used to make them.
Google "Bill Holmes", "Home Workshop", and "Bill Holmes Home Workshop". Bill Holmes has some books out that are intresting, and can help you out if you are intrested in getting an idea of how one would go about hand making guns.
If I wasn't on a 56k connection I would upload them for you. However search around on IRC and BitTorrent and you might find them.

Re: Making a gun, with your bare hands.
Interesting idea, I've often thought about making a handgun with just basic hand tools but now I have access to a lathe and milling machine along with a heavy duty drill press it seems possible.
I'm posting some links to "blueprints" for homemade weapons I found, these are not readily avaliable on the internet so I hope you find them and save them if you need to.
Tell me if you ever build any home weapons parts.

Id Suggest just making a single shot .22 first, give you some experiance and a basic idea of what works.
