starting something with best friend
k so my best friend is this girl I used to go to school with. We get along really well and we just really get each other but lately I've been liking her even more than just in that way. As it turns out she feels the same way, But since she's breaking up with her live-in boyfriend(tons of hastle, tryin to find new place), we haven't really done anything other than hold hands and the odd grope session. I really like this girl, and I believe she likes me as well.but with all that shit you hear about not dating your friends or your best friends for that matter, I just wanted to know what your guys thoughts are on my situation and the topic as a whole.

Re: starting something with best friend
Beware. If it goes tits-up, you may lose a really good friend.
Is all this hand holding and groping then more worth that?
Take a think on it.

Re: starting something with best friend
What makes you think your friend isn't just in it for a quick grope, and such, every now and then?

oh, I know we're both pretty wary about this whole thing, murky waters and all that.

Good luck, but remember to keep things light at the moment. Don't invest much past friendship.

Re: starting something with best friend
The only reason these things fail is because you don't talk to each other. So keep the communication and you're golden. It's the most important thing, by far. Good luck.

Re: starting something with best friend
Yeah, communication is the key.
Don't let it get awkward. I had a friend who dated his best friend. He said it felt like he was having sex with his sister.
...He had sex with her anyway... But that's beside the point.
Just be sure to know how she feels about the new situation you two are trying to make.
She could just be on the re-bound... maybe no want anything too serious right now.

Re: starting something with best friend
Like others said...think about it. I dated my best friend, and our relationship turned to shit for a while after we broke up. After a while of hell, we finally patched it back up, and we're bests again. Don't fuck it up if you break up, try and be her friend...it's rough losing your best friend like that.

Re: starting something with best friend
DONT DO IT. trust me its horrible.
relationships as a whole are pretty lame, just go for the hookup and never talk about it again.

Re: starting something with best friend
There's probably a reason she's your "best friend" and not your "girlfriend" already. I'm trying to say that there's probably some sort of non-attraction between you, which makes me think that, if she does in fact like you, it will probably end fairly soon. And as most of us know, once you've been sort of emotionally involved with someone, it's hard to go back to normal.
You should definitely invest as little as possible right now. Maybe she just wants to mess around for a while, and maybe you guys will figure out that it just won't work. As long as you don't completely fall for her, it shouldn't end too badly. And if you end up liking each other and wanting a relationship, then so be it.
Short answer: If you want a relationship, take it slow. If you both just want to hook up, go faster.

Re: starting something with best friend
do what you'd like. but be VERY cautious. remember, if you break up, and things go badly, you've just lost your best friend. that is the very reason i've abstained from dating mine. its gonna suck not being able to see what things are like, but sometimes the risk is too goddamned hefty.
