Default Laughing while fighting or arguing? WTF!

Ok i have a problem/blessing i need to know about. I have a nervous laugh. It was the way my body hid my crying from the way i was raised by the time i hit my late Teens. Im 18 now and have been using Acid/Mushrooms and therepy to try to change my outlook on life. However ill get to the reason i posted my drug use in a min.

Anyway before i started taking acid and stuff whenever me and my Ex-Girlfriend would start to argue i would catch myself having a smile on my face. What was really quite sad was when we broke up i started laughing.

Im with a new girl now and everything is great. I love every aspect of her. However since ive met this girl ive used acid more and with the help of therepy the way im viewing life has taken a 180 Degree turn.

The problem is now whenever i argue with my current girlfriend i start laughing and smiling. I caint pin point whats causing it because when i argue im trying to pay attention to her and not what going on in the inside of me.

Anyone else have this problem? Its embarrassing because she has told me streight up that even though ive explained it, she still feels like im laughing at the matter.

Opinions?

Okay- so.. don't take acid/mushrooms anymore... And maybe the whole laughing thing is not necessarily linked to the drugs? Mayhaps it's more like a defense mechanism. Like, laughing about it and shrugging it off is obviously a much easier feeling/reaction to cope with than anger or frustration.
More ther-rapeme pour toi, je pense.

Im afraid that ive been learning too much about myself to stop taking mushrooms at least. But im saying because ive been able to view life in a more postitive way im begining to wonder if my new outlook on life has got me doing it more.

My best guess is deep down without thinking my brain is saying "I love this girl. This fighting is gonna end. I caint wait till its over so the one i love will show affection to me again"......Next thing you know i have what she calls "A shit eating grin on my face"

You view life in a more positive way.. so you keep on shrooming? Illogical.
Unless you are truly laughing for the sole reason of - I love her - it's probably more that you are trying to avoid something worse. I doubt you laugh and smile during an argument because you think "God, I love this girl"-- obviously the fight was initiated because of something you disliked or disagreed on.

I force myself to laugh while arguing to calm the situation. But that's a conscious decision.

And the other times it's been uncontrolled was because he does funny things when he's mad, he falls and gets clumsy. Or something funny will be on TV and I'll laugh. But never just because I have to laugh.

I believe they call that reaction formation..

I'm sure there's a distinct difference between the laugh you have when you're fighting and when you're humored. Can you mom tell the difference? I'm sure after a few more months, she'll be able to tell.

Hm, I start smiling when I hear really bad news that upsets me, or when I get into a nervous, tense situation that requires immediate attention. I try to fight it because it's completely opposite of my actual emotion and I can't explain why it happens, but it does. Very strange.

You obviously don't understand.

Nervous laugh when fighting/arguing, since you were a child. Acid and shrooms seems to have brought it out more.

Well, one thing I can think of is..

1) It is a natural defense mechanism. Subconciously ingrained into you so you show no weakness when somebody would think you would.

2) Deep down you're just actually scared of breaking up infront of someone.

3) The most logical one. You're nervous. You feel uncomfortable fighting/arguing so you start laughing and grinning about it because you feel you're more comfortable in that setting. The negative emotions immediately trigger this, which could be an indicator of child-hood trauma, or something genetic mentioned in 1). You aren't conciously trying to do it but you blindly follow it and don't even realise it.

Does any of them sound right, especially number 3? ;)

Start carying a razor with you - no matter where, or when - everytime you feel that annoying laughter coming, start slashing your wrist as many times as possible until you pass out.
