I have a few good friends right now. I also have a girlfriend. I never, ever drink or smoke, and in my highschool it's never held me back.

However, I'm aware of how much of a social bridge drugs and beer are. I'm afraid that in college, I won't be able to make friends because I'm not willing to party really. I'm also afraid that I won't be able to get a girlfriend (me and my girlfriend are gonna split), since I've heard that pretty much doesn't happen in college, only drunken hookups.

I don't want to only be friends with weird kids on the substance free floors. What can I do?

Why don't you drink at all? No one says you can't have fun without being drunk. Go to venues that play local music that suits your taste. What kind of school are you going to? Is it a social school? What setting is it in? It all depends.
If you're a sociable, friendly guy, people will come to you. It may take time, but you must be patient.

When I stoped drinking,and smoking,my social bridge like literally burned to the ground.Jojabr,ive always been a social friendly guy but since I dont drink well I have no importance except in the business world.So I sacirficed my social life for making 12k a month though business.Really being alone in your own age group,is it really worth it I ask? what are you getting out of not drinking or smoking.

I'll never forget when I made the decision to improve my social life. It was in fifth/sixth grade. I was one of the smart kids who didn't really talk to anybody. I started noticing girls and how they never really talked to me, and I felt kind of socially left out. It was a tough decision. I knew I could continue and focus my life entirely on academics, studying, and being successful, but at the same time I would be missing out on all the social fun, and I really wanted that aspect of my life to be fulfilling. I picked a balance somewhere in between, and I think I've stuck with that balance pretty well for the most part. I have friends, I go out, I still challenge myself academically and I have successful ambitions. I'm generally pretty happy, and I hope I can maintain that balance when I go off to college too. Maybe this will give you a little insight.

Dude, take it from a drinker...It doesn't take booze to have a good time although it does make things a lot easier!

There is a huge difference between a couple of beers and getting absolutely fucked out of your face and throwing up all over the place!
A couple beers can be enjoyable. Especially in places where there's some music and people to talk to. Getting wasted usually makes you forget a lot of the fun you had the night before.

The trick is to loosen up and enjoy a couple social bevvies amongst people you meet and become friends with but know when to take a breather because you're starting to feel the effects.

Just drink a little.

One beer to loosen up.
Hell drink wine if you want.
You don't have to be just like everybody else and get piss drunk.

Just learn to relax.
You don't even have to do this throughout college.
Just live the summer before and your first year up.
Learn to organize and priortize and don't put drinking before anything you don't want it to be.

Just be cool with it. you can show some interest in it, you dont have to do it. i mean come on drunks are hilarious.

from my experience people are totally cool with you not doing that stuff, youll make friends nonetheless. but parties where everyones drunk might not be as fun. actually parties where everyones drunk arent that great anyways.

in that case you could go to clubs and places with music/dancing.

just be yourself. sounds gay but its true. and a simple smile and a "hi" can get a conversation going. and go to social places that you have a interest in.

I don't drink because my father was an alcoholic, and his father before him, and so on. The men in our family have a problem with getting off addictions, and I don't even want to start.

I also wouldn't want to have friends who would only befriend me if I drank.

My uncle doesnt drink at all, same with my other and a lot of the rest of the family. This is due to an alcoholic tendancy running through our genes.

The reason I started with my uncle, however, is because he partys all the time. He gets his kicks out of cheering people on, trying to get them as drunk as possible.

So you're at a party and everyone's playing drinking games. The men outweigh the women. You arrange things, get people drinking at a stupid rate... what happens? At the end of the night, you are one of the few people left who is physically able to pleasure a girl.
