Default Panhandling

Has anyone done this or got solid advice of how to make the most of it?

I mean I'm a good looking, presentable guy...why give someone well off looking money?? BUT if I played the angle of asking like-looking individuals for a dollar to make a phone call because I'm short, that work work right?

Where's the best place to do it? I would imagine near a magazine stand because it's already on the street and you could ask for the change before they pocketed it...meaning they might not want the loose change and you know for sure they do have change and aren't wasting time asking a tightass...

i don't think it would work. That's why homeless people look like shit. People will be even tighter with change for a phone call. You won't get enough for it to be worth it.

I dunno, I mean fully dressed up in business attire and maybe holding up my mobile phone saying it's dead - Not intimidating and asking politely.

Half the homeless cunts are exactly that...cunts. They think you owe them something, with this it's like letting someone in front of you at a supermarket checkout if you have a lot of stuff and they don't have much.

Another thing I thought was saying I was short of a bus fare to get to my business meeting or something. To me that gives the illusion at least that I'm giving back to the society instead of buying booze, drugs or cigarettes like the stereotypical bum.

but, its pretty easy to say no. you catch people off gaurd and make them uncomftable. I don't really think it matters what you're percieved as. People just don't feel comfortable giving out money to strangers on the street. they feel like chumps. You're going to have to be a little pushy. and its pocketchange. not worth standing around in a businesssuit for.

There's an episode of umm that scam program. (I forget the name) You may have seen it. I'll try and find a link.

I think it would definitaly be worth a shot. Just be polite and come up with some good excuses for money. Don't forget to post results.

EDIT: The real hustle. Here's the episode I was talking about for those who haven't seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjjfi0AuvRo

Should provide you with tips.

Asking for money for the phone worked when I was younger. Now people just offer to let you use their cellphones. I have heard of people making good money panhandling in New York City. Like enough to have and apartment and eat regularly.

why would they give you money instead of just saying 'here, you can use my phone.'?

Yeah good point I actually thought that too. Short of a bus fare it is then.

Moony As someone else said people could make a living from it...just a social experiment I suppose seeing if I could make more money regulary then my job. Could also compliment my home loan repayments haha

Id much rather give a stranger 50c than hand them an expensive and important cellphone, which they could run off with.

thats like a friend asking if they can borrow $20, and you handing them your wallet and saying "here, you can just use this!"

But hey, thats just tightarse, paranoid me talking...
