Default A friend in need

I go to a non-descript dull boarding school in England. This is a pretty long story. this year I started sixthform. Things were going great, especially with a new friend who we will call M. We were great friends, we talked about stuff no one else did, politics, ideas morals and our aspirations. We trusted each other on everything. We were reasonably smart and successful.
This was all a lie. What we thought was social drinking, was a bloody addicition. Every weekend we would put a way half a bottle of a spirit (anything we could get our hands on) in less than two hours. We did this to forget our problems. Turns out that we didnt tell each other everything. Let just say our parents are bastards respectively. they use us as pawns in there power games (there divorced). It got to the point were we would drink on our own, him at school at night while me in my room at home on my own (im a day pupil).
It came to a head this weekend, we got through far toomuch alcohol on an empty stomachs. He ended up on the floor in fucking tears and paryletic. He was sick and was crying and delirious. I had to get the teachers, in my drunk state I thought he had accute alcohol problems. Things rapidly went tist up. To cut a long story short my great friend who is gentle and well mannered became violent when he was restrained. We were all fine physically. However after an interview with the head, he is getting counselling and now i am most likely getting a referral from my GP in summerset to see a psychiatrist.
What should I do, I need to be there for my friend, how can i help him and how can I help myself.
Also I want everyone to know how dangerous drink is and how easily you can mask problems from your best friends and even yourself.

p.s. after a long story we have decided to go cold turkey concerning the alcohol.

First off you need to be very clear that the alcohol itself isn't a problem.

At your age and from the amounts you listed its fairly certain you aren't addicted to the alcohol itself. (and remember i am an alcoholic).

You may very well be addicted to using it as a crutch or escape means.

The cold hard truth is that you and your mate need to man up. You need to set your parents straight. Do it in a calm rational and respectful manner sure but let the steel in your manner and voice show. You must make it clear to them that you are not a pawn in whatever sick battle they want to play.

You don't take sides and the area around you is a DMA.

Leave off the booze, go get laid and remember your parents have NO right to make you carry the can for their marital mistakes.

If you can't handle booze, you can NOT handle sex. Jack, you're always saying your pro-life, well what happens when one of the people you suggest to get laid doesn't use a condom, gets some girl knocked up, and they have an abortion? How are you supporting the pro-life cause?

Hey now jackass! Dont blame your problems on the booze! Its not the boozes fault you cant handle your shit and your friend is a pussy. If you arent going to appreciate the booze i would be much obliged to take it off your hands for you.

But yeah, stop your bitching, quit drinking your problems away (yeah im a hypocrite- fuck all of you) and fix shit. If youre at boarding school you shouldnt be dealing with your parents at all... so stop letting them run your life for you. And lean to hold your liquor.

Can anyone 'handle' booze?

I know a lot of people who think they can, thats for sure.

But its the same with hash, I know a lot of people who think they drive better when stoned but in all the years I've only ever met one whom i thought did.

There's a difference between being able to handle a drug and performing better while intoxicated, jackie boy.

I agree with jakk. This isn't the alcohol, its your parents, and thats from someone who is/was of that situation. That lead to nothing but bad things, very bad things, and the best way to be there for your mate is just to be there. call each other when you're tempted to drink, and get out of there and do something else with each other. And GET THE MESSAGE TO YOUR PARENTS that they can't FUCK with you head like that. Use whatever means necessary.
