Default Dan Brown and Neil Gaiman

While Dan Brown's works totally kill Neil Gaimans work, both authors are tremendously talented. Dan Brown is mostly known for The Da Vinci Code, obviously. He has 3 other novels that are as equally interesting, including Robert Langdons first Adventure in Angels and Demons. Another one for computer hacker buffs titled 'Digital Fortress' which is an excellent read. And for the Sci-fi buffs you can read Deception Point. I was intruiged by Browns work while in Prison, with all the free time I read his 4 books in the course of one month and have been a fan since then.
Neil Gaiman has two books I have read out of his many publishings. I suggest checking out American Gods and Anasi Boys. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, it takes more than stealing others' ideas and writing at a third grader's level to make a talented writer.

I've read a few of Dan Brown's books, and wasn't particularly impressed. Deception Point and The Da Vinci Code were both alright, but he spends more time criticizing the Catholic Church and NASA than developing a good story. He's not necessarily a bad writer, but nothing of his that I've seen so far is worth reading again.

Gaiman received a World Fantasy Award for short fiction in 1991 for the Sandman issue, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Due to a subsequent rules change disqualifying comics for that category, Gaiman is the only writer to win that award for a comics script.)

The Sandman series kicks the crap out of the davinci code.

No kidding, Brown has nothing on Gaiman.
Read American Gods again but this time, take your head out of your ass.

From what I have read of both authors, Gaiman is easily the better of the two. Anasi Boys was pretty damn good and American Gods was awesome.
I've read both Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons by brown. It might just be those two books, but I found that there's just wasn't enough work put into the characters. Sure, the story may be clever but people involed didn't come across as real, just vehicles to pull the plot forward.

Gaiman is quite creative. He has many angles to look at a story.

Brown appeals to an audience. There is something to be said for doing such a thing.

Dan Brown makes me feel like he's talking to a retard - and me being the reader, what does that make me? Now, compare that to the insane looping of the Sandman series, which I've read innumerable times and still find new things... Well. I just like the fact that the writer is obviously smarter than me, but doesn't go out of his way to oversimplify just because of that.

Of Gaimans work on screen; Neverwhere beats the shit out of Da Vinci codes movie version any day, Tom Hanks or not. Does anyone know btw if he Gaiman wrote the tv script or the book first?
