Cunning Linguists Languages and their use. What languages do you speak and why? What do words really mean? Can you say things in one language that you can't say in another? Should there be a national language? How many languages should a person know and what are they?

Default Wit as a Weapon

Has there been any instances of where you were floored by your use of wit and words to shut someone down. I have noticed this about myself quite a bit lately. I just came out of a messy break up where the new boy toy is starting shit with me. First he demanded I apologize to my ex, I told him I did "and she could barely walk afterwards" Also, I talked a door greeter at Walmart into allowing me to carry my backpack into the store. She had stopped me and I went on about profiling, and how serious it is to profile someone on the basis of their appearance. I then tied in racism like she would be oblivious to this issue (she was black) I also pointed out the abundance of these gigantic pink/or green purses everyone has. The whole time I was just rolling it out, and I was able to take my backpack in. At one point she blankly stared at me and asked me what I was talking about. "You're under 70 and a door greeter, no wonder" I slipped that one by.

The supreme one that almost got my ass beat by the new boy toy was, "If you're so intent on finishing my leftovers, I have a half eaten microwave burrito in my fridge."

Anyone else enjoy similar abilities?

I like it

I employ sarcasm, in moderation. Nothing compared to you, apparently.

You aren't good with words.

Oh and wit really doesn't have anything to do with linguistics. Maybe if you're talking about the semantic change of the word wit over the past 500 years (It meant "knowledge" 500~ years ago.)

OP, you have demonstrated no wit, mediocre linguist ability and poor word choice. No one likes a showoff, especially one with nothing to show.

Get out.

hehe

I failed my driving test for driving with one hand on the wheel. So I asked her, 'How is one meant to drink and drive with both hands on the wheel?'

I don't know though, being a smart ass has come natural to me ever since I learned to speak. It has never gotten me beat up though, just stuffed in a garbage can once or twice, and maybe a couple of death threats.

ROFL, I'M SO USING THAT! <3

I'm always being a wiseass though, I don't consider it "owning" anyone unless you do it through straight knowledge/smarts rather than sarcasm.

Sarcasm, though, in my opinion, is much fuckin' cooler, lol.

Wit's handy. You got to be quick though, that's half the battle. It doesn't matter how good the response is if it's 5 seconds too late.
