| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Presidential Medal of Freedom, who'd you giveit to
So I'm thinking that there's a number of American civilians that deserve recognition.
I would give it to John Madden because he's fucking awesome. And Peyton Manning. And Chipper Jones (AKA Larry to every asshole north of the Mason-Dixon line). And pretty much everyone else in sports who's awesome.
But seriously I met an old man at the bar about two years ago who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam as a Marine officer. That kind of shit deserves recognition. I met another old man at work in 2003 who had served in WWII and Korea and I was informed by another "younger" man (like 40 years old) that I should thank him for my freedom. Which I was happy to do because that is fucking awesome.
Just imagine that, "I served in all three of 'em". American Badass, move over Kid Rock.
If you were President, who would you give medals to?
Original thoughts are welcome.

Nobody. Nowhere in the Constitution does it allow the government to give extremely expensive medals on the taxpayer's dime.

So this also means gay marriage and abortion goes to the states not the country.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is considered a species of office with emolument under the United States Constitution. Both Congress and the President are authorised to grant such awards (for instance in the military: medals for valour, et cetera). The Founders never understood the Constitution to prohibit this, as evidenced by the fact that Washington awarded several medals for service after the United States was stabilised.
