Default Question about abortions and miscarriages.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum.. but what the hell.

If a woman has a miscarriage, does she still have the baby? I mean... I've really never thought about this until I was debating it with a friend. Same question with abortions. I mean... what I think is that you still have the baby, and its killed once its born? Or maybe killed while in the uterus but still has to be born? Shit I don't know, someone help me out here.

Stupid question but...
With abortions, the fetus is terminated within the womb and extracted.
With miscarages the fetus comes out with your normal period.

Unless it's more developed, in that case the woman has to give birth to the dead baby.

Which has to be one of the most soul destroying things a woman (and her partner) can ever experience. Happened to some friends of mine. She was almost full term and suddenly the baby died in the womb. The whole pregnancy had been fine. Just one of those shitty things that happen. They never did find out why.

She went for a normal check up and suddenly she found herself in ER (has to be done asap because the corpse will poison the mother).

They induced the birth and she had to give birth to the corpse in the normal way.

They do however try and dope the woman up to the point that she's almost not aware whats going on.

That would be awful :(

I was reading this thing in a trashy real-life type of magazine, about a woman who was having twins, and one of the twins was feeding off the other, but the one feeding off the other wasn't getting enough nutrients and stuff to it, and was too small, and eventually died, and the other one wasn't quite to a point where it would survive induced labor (Or something like that), so she had to keep carrying the dead baby, at serious risk that it could kill the other one.
I think when she did give birth he survived, but had tonnes of problems. I can't remember if he survived life very long or not though.
It made me sad :(

I dont know about early trimester abortions, but later on, say around 5months, they give inject the baby that's in there with some drug that instantly (and humanely, just like mouse poison) kills it. Then later, they'll give the woman a tablet that will make her vaginal muscles relax. Then they'll put her under, and remove the dead child piece by piece through the vagina.

And then the woman can wake up to her wonderfull flat tummy and the knowledge of what she's done. Brilliant.

That's terrible, it happened to a women I used to work with as well and shes never gotten over it. Thank god she just gave birth to a healthy girl a few months back.
Still borns, they're called here (you guys probably call it that too) - baby was given a name and then burried :( Pretty fucking awful, espeically when it's your first child.

People, do remember that ISN'T a thread about the rights and wrongs of abortion per se.

You feel the need to rant or soapbox then there is a thread over in B&M.

Yes here too but 'still born' usually tends to mean the child died during the birth. Which of course is horiffic enough in itself but imagine you knowingly have to push out an already dead child...

Thats the stuff nightmares are made of.

This topic breaks my heart... I know that they're offering alot more couselling to those involved now that its a bit less 'hush hush' in everyday society. I know that a large amount of business owners give paid leave for men as well, putting it under 'stress and bereavement', which is a good step forward I reckon.

My friend recently gave birth to a stillborn baby. It just died while she was in labor for no apparant reason. She has been pretty devastated...She visits the baby's grave for hours every day and all she can talk about is getting pregnant again.

It would be so terrible to have a stillborn child...When I was in labor with my daughter, her heartbeat suddenly disappeared and she had to be removed with foreceps. THEN she inhaled amniotic fluid on her way out and the nurses had to suction her lungs. Oh and after I had pushed out her head, her SHOULDER stuck in my birth canal...Which was also very scary. Even after all of that, I was still able to bring home a healthy baby...I can't even imagine my grief had it been otherwise.:(

Oh, how traumatic for you, it put you off your food. You have my deepest sympathies.

I can scarcely imagine anything worse for either a mother or a father. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

There isn't enough knowledge on this sort of thing, people can't understand this sort of pain unless they've experienced it.
Sensitively worded questions are the way to go :)
