it's a bruise, it will fade. icing it may numb the area.

you don't get a hickey from playing the violin. you get a huge temporary red mark, but it's not broken blood vessels. i've had the mark mistaken for a hickey before though, and for some reason "it's from my violin!" doesn't seem to fly...

I know you don't LITERALLY get a hickey. i've had this for years but it's flared up a bit more recently because i've been practicing more.
