deleting aids...
Why do people waste money on trying to find a cure for AIDS?
I think they should just exterminate people with aids...
Then it will be no more..
Plus there will be less people in the world. Less world hunger..
i don't know..just a random thought
what do you think??

Re: deleting aids...
Really, each individual has the ultimate responsibility/decision of whether or not they want to risk contracting HIV/AIDS.
If you don't want to get it, then don't engage in IV drug use, sodomy, or promiscuous heterosexual sex. This alone elimates the vast majority of cases; no one gets it from blood transfusions anymore.
The few remaining cases where people get it through accident (paramedics, police, etc.) or by sleeping with someone who lied to them about it should be prosecuted to the utmost, and anyone who knowingly infects another with AIDS, or any other dangerous disease, should receive death, but not by standard execution. They should be locked in a cell, put on a bread and water diet, and be refused all medical treatment and drugs. Such a horrible punishment should deter sick individuals who would purposefully propagate lethal illnesses.

Re: deleting aids...
Well, your idea would work, but not everyone who has aids know they have aids, and we don't have a list of everyone who has aids. If we did, we wouldn't have a problem with killing them, since they'd die sooner or later anyway.

Re: deleting aids...
What if every single person in the world, no exceptions, took 2 weeks off from their normal activities, and collectively concentrated on curing AIDS?
What could be accomplish? The possibilities are endless.

You're right, but I believe that this, too, can be chalked up to the individual's choices and actions. If you don't engage in risky behavior with multiple partners, or partners that you don't know well, and don't use protection, then it is on you if you contract the disease. You should at least have the decency to abstain from further risky behavior until the incubation period has passed and you have a clean test. And, obviously, if you are cop or paramedic and are exposed to bodily fluids, you should know to get tested both immediately and a period of time afterward.
I know that my idea isn't perfect, but I think if we put the focus on personal responsibility we can make a big difference in the spread of HIV both quickly and cost-efficiently.

Re: deleting aids...
Killing everyone with AIDS... Sorry don't think that will go down well with most of the public.
Reaserch into a cure for HIV wont just benifit people with that particualr disease. By doing reaserch into HIV, we can potentially learn more about other retroviruses that could prove advantageous in the future for either fighting off other retroviral diseases or for understanding the origins of a good chunk of our genome.
HIV has recently become a big issue all over again in Aust, with infection rates the highest in about twenty years and several cases of people purposefully infecting others coming into the public eye. One of these cases dropped the Victorian Heath Minister into a whole lot of hot water and ended with the sacking of the Chief Health Officer.
What it also brought up was the debate of whether or not it should be illegal for HIV positive people to engage in sexual relations without telling the other person of their condition. Another case of privacy vs. the good of the community.
Making it mandatory to reveal you infection is one thing but Tony Abbot wants to go one step further - not only does he want to know if your HIV infected, he wants to genetically profile the virus and potentially trace back other infections to you! This is the project he's given the thumbs up to - http://tinyurl.com/27f7yc

But how can anyone decide for another what is right or wrong, why can't people set their own moral boundaries influenced only from within themselves?

Re: deleting aids...
People want to cure it because like you said, people who aren't complete scumbags get it too, and people infect others with it on purpose.

that would accomplish nothing....because me, and the majority of the world, know jack shit about microbiology and other necessary information to come up with a cure...
