The National Anthem, a petiti0n
The National Anthem is pretty fucking awesome. We took the British anthem and changed the lyrics just to piss them off.
I think we should change the National Anthem to that Toby Keith song that says "we'll put a boot in your ass, its the American way" (Courtesy Of The Red White & Blue (The Angry American)). I am serious.
Do you support this or no? Its a fucking awesome song nonetheless.

... absolutely not. The current national anthem has class, something that Toby Keith song lacks. That's not to say that "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue) is a bad song, but IMO it lacks the quality of our current anthem. It's like Springsteens' "Born in the USA"... good song for playing on the Fourth of July, but I wouldn't want it to represent my country.

Dude, we need a classic song, not something that may be popular awhile then people get tired of. Our anthem is something that can withstand the test of time.

Keep in mind that at the time of our re-writing of "God Save the Queen", that wasn't a "classy" move. The Declaration of Independence wasn't very "classy".
I have the Gadsden flag on my living room wall. "Dont tread on me". 90% of morons don't know what it is. One particular moron thought it was because of that shitty 311 song. It isn't very "classy".
Gotta admit though, the Toby Keith song kicks the shit out of the music from Vietnam. Finally a song about ass-kicking for America.

I was under the impression that The Star-Spangled Banner is set to an English drinking song, and that God Save the Queen is a melody by Haydn.

The reason for adopting that song may not have been classy, but the anthem certainly is. Toby Keith's isn't - the lyrics and style are rife with crass (yeah, I know that's a pretentious sounding choise of word) hostility and ultra-patriotism. Fine in their own context, but to represent our country? No way.
