Cooking for other people.
When you cook for other people, and I mean people you know personally, rather than customers..
Do you enjoy it? Or is it a bit stressfull to cook for someone you know very well, because if you cook something they dont like they might think that you dont know them so well after all..?
When you're cooking for them, do they hang around and watch and chat, and does this bother you? Or do they just piss off and watch TV till foods ready? And does that bother you?
How about when the meal is ready? Are you about to call "dinner is ready!" to realise that the person you're cooking for is allready sitting at the table drooling?
Or do you have to yell "dinner is READY!!" to be answered by a faint "in a minute!!" ?
Do you watch how they eat, their every facial expression, how much sauces or salt they put on the food? Does it matter that much to you?
I'm a little bit dissapointed. My boyfriend wanted me to cook for him, so I did a basic mushroom and egg dish, whilst he had a nap. I placed it infront of him when it was done and woke him up. He said "one minute" and went right back to sleep.
I'm not pissed or anything, but I do feel that's a bit rude to ask someone to cook for you and then not eat it.
This is why I rarely eat other peoples cooking. I'm scared I'll offend them by eating to quickly/slowly. Also..oh god.. never ever put salt on a meal cooked for you, it tends to really insult some people!
I want totse input. now.

That was a really, really usefull oppinion. Thankyou so much for your worthwhile post. It really showed that you're an interesting person with a mind of your own, and you're most certainly not a spitefull stupid little child who likes to act tough and insult people on the internet.
Thanks once again! Really good post..

Re: Cooking for other people.
I just sort of cook. I pretty much do all the cooking now whenever I'm home, and they they don't like, well then they can do the cooking from now on.
I don't get too bent out of shape if my brother doesn't like the pork chops or pizza I made.

Re: Cooking for other people.
Luckily, as i smoke 60 handrolled filterless fags a day I don't have any kind of palate for seasoning and the tastebuds that aren't covered in a layer of tar were cauterised by alcohol years ago. Therefore i expect everyone i cook for to add salt/pepper/aromat/ketchup as they see fit.
Depends on my mood, blood alcohol levels and what I'm cooking as to whether or not i want people around me. Sometimes its nice to do a Nigella..serenely, nay, magically appear bearing gifts sauteed in duck fat and lashings of chocolatey goodness to follow.
Also depends on how many i'm cooking for. If its for a gathering of the clan then i'm pretty much working a line and don't want any distractions. Its then either the Shipping forecast for company or the kind of music that makes fat skinheaded 40 year olds twirl around the kitchen between the mis, oven and passe (or 'the stained 20 year old formica worktop' to give it the correct name).
Just cooking for a lover...yes i VERY much want them in the kitchen admiring the deftness of my knife gyrotechnics and listening in rapt awe as I explain some fascinating piece of food history or trivia.
Yes i am a very sad sad man.

Re: Cooking for other people.
It might make me a tight bastard, but I only ever cook for other people when I'm cooking for myself. I'll pretty much decide what _I_ want, then ask anyone around me if they want "egg and chips" or something similar, as it's pretty much no effort to cook thrice as much of the same thing.

Re: Cooking for other people.
i'm pretty comfortable cooking for my friends etc as long as it's a big group. i get far more nervous if it's for one person, like my boyfriend. he's one of those people that will eat absolutely anything and be fine with it, but i'm pretty sure he wouldn't tell me if he didn't like something i made for him.
this means that i do watch his reactions etc to an extent.
meh - desserts are my thing. big batch of 'da bomb' chocolate chip cookies/brownies/tiramisu after and it's all good.
in the kitchen - i don't mind, as long as they don't touch stuff without asking permission.

Re: Cooking for other people.
I do hate it when they come in the kitchen when I'm cooking, especially since my brother is rather large and our kitchen is the opposite. He also isn't the smoothest person in the world, so he clangs and bangs around a bit.
