Advice on keeping out of pits...
Going to a gig tomorrow, worried. I'll be on my own and hate the pit as it is, especially when I'm alone. Also, it's actually a band I want to see, so I actually want to watch them.
Any advice on staying out of the pit? (ie where to stand, where not to stand)?

Re: Advice on keeping out of pits...
Well as a rule of thumb anyime you start see a large group of guys forming walk in the other direction.
I jest, but perhaps you could tell what the venus actually looks like, we don't need a floor plan or anything, just a little information about the layout.
Although I must say that I find it shocking and slightly sad that people must fear for their safety when going to a concert these days.

Re: Advice on keeping out of pits...
As I've never been to the venue before, I have aboslutely no idea of the layout. But I've found this floor plan.

Well, don't stand in the pit.
Though my more broad advice,, is to just stay away from idiots - only idiots participate in that stupid bullshit.

Now what did I say about floor plans?
Anyway, I'm willing to beat that that rows "A-F" will probably be the most packed, with "B" and "E" being the place where the "pit" forms.
What band(s) are you seeing, that would help a lot.

My main reason for going is to see Mindless Self Indulgence, but The Used, Alexisonfire, Kill Hannah, and HIM (who I will not even be taking the time to see), will also be playing.

If those are the bands you're going to see then I promise you that you have as much of a chance of being hurt in a most pit as being struck by one of Zeus's lighting bolts.

Re: Advice on keeping out of pits...
Anytime I go to a show where there might be some people shoving eachother around like idiots, I just stay up in the front, to the side. You might get squeezed a bit, but if you can get up to a rail, you'll have something to push back on.
Or you could just stay in the back, but that's no fun.

Re: Advice on keeping out of pits...
Stand behind some big dudes who aren't going to go into the pit, that worked for me when I saw The Sword and Clutch. Normally, I'd be right in the pit, but I actually wanted to watch The Sword jam out. My girlfriend and I just happened to be standing aside two rather built puerto rican dudes who launched anyone who came near them.
But, shit, people gotta stop being assholes in the pit. It's one thing to hit the people inside the pit, but you just don't hit the people on the outside. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but you should be as courteous as possible to other people.
