You can eliminate evil
Imagine a world where there were no negative feelings at all, where people always made the choice within their minds to do the right thing.
Imagine if everyone focused their dedication to making humanity better, rather than figuring out new ways to destroy it.
Now imagine after say 4 generations of that. There would be no thought for anger, grief, envy, whatever because we would be thinking freely again and not under the impression we were.
Imagine what the world could be.

Re: You can eliminate evil
So long as peoples lives are tied to one another, there will be hard feelings. When you're forced to attend school for 12 years, you get a little pissed off. When you interpret the rules of a competition differently than someone else, you feel angry when you lose whatever you otherwise would have had.
So long as people want anything, be that wealth and pleasure, social change, love, competitive superiority, or anything, there will be negative emotions.
This isn't to say that negative emotions can't be minimized. I believe universally accepted standards and agreements of mutual respect would do a lot to mediate the negative feelings people have for one another. But you can't do away with them altogether, because not everyone agrees on how the world should be, and they never will.

Re: You can eliminate evil
You can't create such a utopia but just spending a bit of your own time to make others a bit happier would go a long way
Like the guy busy doing an inventory or something and wouldn't spend 30 minutes to come hook up the power so dad could get started on his work. He chose to do his own thing first and as a result, dad's been twidling his thumbs for a week and will have to do the work on top of his regular job later when his vacation is over. He's tired enough, 30 minutes was all it would have taken to ease his burden of life. Yet, even that was too much to ask. It shouldn't be

Re: You can eliminate evil
You can create it. It wouldn't even be hard. All you would have to do is realise what's really important to you, and what you only think matters when it doesn't.

Re: You can eliminate evil
People are selfish, consciously and unconsciously, and nothing is going to change that. This world will remain a horrible place no matter what you do. But with that said I think it's important to do everything you can to attempt to make it better, even if it is in some miniscule way. Just because it's hopeless doesn't mean you should give up.
I'm jealous of your idealism and optimism Gold, but I just don't see the elimination of evil as a possibility. Especially when people won't even agree totally on what evil is.
I hope I'm wrong and we will someday find out how to live together, but I can't see it happening on a large scale.

Re: You can eliminate evil
Wouldn't that make us a brainwashed slaves toward our selves. There would be no point of living. What would we do all day. Act like a bunch of boy scouts, smiling like those cartoons kids with not a care in the world thats broad casted Sunday mornings on your local channels ,sun rise to sin set, then repeat?
Might make a good science fiction book plot though; D

As opposed to being assholes to each other every day, all day, rince and repeat. Yeah, I'd much rather have everyone being assholes towards me instead of being nice and helping if I need it. At least the world would be h4rdc0r3, not some faggy boyscout faggoty faggot camp!!9

People already do that, the reason the world hasn't turned into utopia is that people see 'the right thing' differently to others.

Re: You can eliminate evil
I was thinking about this very thing today.
I hate how in our society everyone works for the betterment of themselves in mind, and not the betterment of everyone.
