Parents and dealing with them
Question at end
I've been caught by my parents before, and always with some pretty stupid shit (ex. benadryl) and been able to bullshit my way out of it. I still took heat from these 2 or 3 times and basically lost their trust. Now I still respect my parents and usually try to treat them nicely but its really straining me.
Just now my mom found an almost empty pack of cigarettes in my trunk hiding space (which I had always thought she didn't know about). I was all like, those ain't mine! but she isn't hearing me.
Now despite my respect for my parents I'm tempted to just say fuck it like so many others of my age group and do whatever the fuck I want. I'm 17 and today was my last day of school before exams. I really want to celebrate with my mates but I also don't want to sneak around behind my parents' backs.
Question
How do you all treat your parents? Do you still do drugs and party when they specifically tell you not to? What do you say or do to make them more accepting?
Note: I am not a stupid kidiot, despite admitting to attempting benadryl. If you flame me, I will flame back.

Re: Parents and dealing with them
I treat my parents with the respect they deserve, but I don't live under their house. So, I get to set my own rules. I do drugs whenever I want because I get to. When you're old enough and live on your own, you'll get to as well. You live under their roof, you live under their rules, it's pretty simple. I wouldn't try to push it, or they'll kick you out in a year from today, whether you're ready (and have the means to support yourself) or not. And it depends on what your parents are like, for whether they will even have a chance to be accepting about anything. And what would flaming back at someone who flames you do besides fill ANOTHER thread with useless posts? Just ignore anyone who tries to flame you without a reason.

You are 17 and you still hide smoking cigarettes from your mother?
Just tell her you smoke and whatever. Don't be a douche about it, though.

Re: Parents and dealing with them
As long as I'm not doing hard drugs, or smoking cigarettes, they don't give a fuck.
I'm also a third a pack a day smoker and have no aversions to using anything but methamphetamine.
I respect their rules, and won't allow anyone else to break them here though. With the exceptions of some pills here and there, I don't do anything but smoke bud or drink here, and even that's pretty occasional when I'm not binging on something.
Then again, my folks know I'm responsible, and can hold shit together when it gets bad, and I'm not dumb about anything. I properly educated my father on how LSD interacts with the brain when he found out I'd told a friend it really wasn't that bad. I just tell them I research drugs for friends to dumb to do it themselves.

Re: Parents and dealing with them
How are your grades?(my grades are decent, but they can help you a lot if they are good.)
One thing with my parents (and most I'd imagine) is productivity. As long as i don't come home from a party and just crash out and do nothing all day then they don't care all that much. So, in order to prove I'm not that much of a fuck up I do all of my chores right when i get home and also do most of theirs. Everyday, I will try and help them out with one way or another.
Example: "I'll do the dishes tonight."
Mom wants a glass of water, but doesn't want to get up or miss her show.. I'll go get it, and ill turn out the lights while I'm up here. Makes her happy, and it only took you what 15-30 seconds. Small price to pay if you ask me.
My parents tell me not to do drugs and disapprove, but have also told me that they cant and wont stop me from doing them. Ever since finding out, they just say be safe, only do them if you are at a place you are sure you wont get caught at, know your rights, don't call home until tomorrow, don't bring them into the house, don't get an addiction, and try not to be the one holding when in public.
At first they tried scaring me out of them with all the myths, but each time they would try I would point out that it was a proven myth and show them some research. This showed them that I am a responsible user whose done my homework and will not end up doing something incredibly stupid.
It also helps if you find some way to show them that you have a strong mentality. I go to the gym three times a week with my step-dad. Even on days i don't want to go i still do.
When they ask you how often you use, just say occasionally, or only on the weekends. If they mention addictions point out some facts. "Pot isn't physically addicting, just mentally." A strong mind > growing an addiction.
Now I don't know if you actually do smoke pot or not, but thats what i did with my parents. If its just ciggs, you can do a whole bunch of things depending on what your trying to accomplish. "It helps relax me, and keep me away from the peer pressure of smoking pot.. Would you rather I smoke pot instead??"
You know your parents better than anyone, so only you can decide what the best plan of action is. What are your parents views on drugs? Who knows... They could just want you to give them an honest answer...Maybe they have known for a while, but were waiting for you to just come clean and admit it. (what my parents did) All people are created different.. Its up to you to make the best out of it.
Hope this helps,

excellent response and the only good, GROWN UP reply in the thread.
respect is earned, not taken. you think you are going to get their trust, respect, and freedom if you continue going behind their backs, disobeying them, and just being another BILL for them to pay for?
take a step back and see this scenerio from an unbiased 3rd person perspective. do you honestly think you deserve to be treated any better than you are now? i dont. and i know you dont think so either, whether you admit it or not.
you want to do big boy things? then take the big boy responsibilities that come along with it, become a contributing member of the family as well as society, and use the brain your parents gave you. you are a year away from being considered an adult. its time to start acting like it. if you dont, then life is going to eat you alive.
