| Technophiliacs & Technophiles The Technophiliacs forum is for discussing any and all forms of tech and other types of social backwardness. Including discussions of strange home-brewed hardware technology. Where to get good tools. How to make fiberglass molds. Computer hardware and software technolgy, including operating systems, applications, networking, hardware, CPU's, disk drives, and other geeky things. Viruses and Artificial Life discussions. How to write HTML. End user tools discussions and support issues. Gating the Internet with other nets. If your computer is better than anyone else's computer, you are required to post a message explaining why. You'll probably be wrong, especially if you're a Mac or BeOS user, but post anyway. |

phpBB and php's include() function
how is it possible to include() a phpBB forum into an allready made template, like this one: www.drute.com/teup/.
is there another way to include phpBB without having the user leave the main site? if so, please explain how.
thank you.

Re: phpBB and php's include() function
Say your webroot is at /
Your phpbb is at /bbs/
If you want to include /bbs/index.php anywhere except from within /bbs/ php is gonna get mad because it can't find the files that /bbs/index.php requires. If /bbs/index.php includes a file (say ./configure/conf.php) and you include /bbs/index.php from / then php will be looking for /configure/conf.php instead of /bbs/configure/conf.php. So in short: You can only include it from within the directory, otherwise you have to edit some paths (the first few lines of index.php).
Another major issue: index.php prints <head>, <html>, and <body> tags. If your script that includes index.php ALREADY declares these tags, things might get messy and not work.
Edit: iframes suck

thats exactly what I thought, I just seen lots of people do it.
but are you saying that if I can include() the files, would I just have to include index.php? or do I have to include() every other page?

Re: phpBB and php's include() function
Actually, I just looked at it again. If you are including index.php from OUTSIDE that directory, edit the line that says "$phpbb_root_path = './';" Change the path to reflect where index.php is being included from. So if your bbs is in /bbs/phpbb2, you'll want to change that value to "bbs/phpbb2/" instead of "./"
You should make sure that you aren't sending multiple headers with the <head> tag though. You'll want to view the html source to make sure that you aren't sending doubles of certain tags (depending on what the document that includes the bbs looks like).

so if I just Include() the index.php it would work?
wouldn't I have to include() every page?

Re: phpBB and php's include() function
I was looking at it more in depth and it looks like you may have some problems. Everything will work until you click on a link because the link is not pointing to the page that includes index.php. So if index.php has a link to viewforum.php, when someone clicks the link, they will go back to viewing the bbs normally because viewforum.php is being viewed by itself (not being included by anything).

And Iframes will not work, check my site: www.drute.com, click the Forums, and when you post\make a new thread, it will take you to index.php
How does Jeff do it on Totse? or is that just for vB?

Re: phpBB and php's include() function
The best way is to make a header and footer that's included at the top and bottom of each page. And by each page, I mean each page that phpbb will display (viewforum, viewtopic, index, etc). The header and footer pages would be a wrapper for the rest of the pages content. Totse's header includes the navigation bar on the left, I'm pretty sure, as well as the banner at the top and maybe some other shit. The footer probably closes tags that were opened in the header and contains the copyright information that's displayed at the bottom of the page.
