Dear lord PLEASE help me!
Alright here's the deal. I have to design a machine(yes, in high school)that uses 4 simple machines, or 2 with 2 machines each. As I am extremely uncreative, I have turned to my fair friends at &T for help.
So, the Six Simple Machines:
1. Simple Lever-ex. End of hammer used to take out nails.
2. Pulley-ex....Hard to explain
3. Wheel and Axle- ex. Car steering wheel turns the wheels
4. Simple Inclined Plane-ex. Handicap ramp
5. Wedge- Ex. Axe
6. Screw- Ex. A Screw
And also, it has to be a practical invention
And Thank You to all that help! Positive rep might ensue.

Re: Dear lord PLEASE help me!
design a car.
1) gear lever
2) accessory belt
3) the wheels and axles (BTW im fairly sure that isnt actually a classed as one of the simple machiens, or w/e they're called)
4) uhm.... the fold down tail gate?
5) Your gate valve on the exhaust which opens for performance mode. Make it wedge shaped.
6)Screw type supercharger. Its not actually a screw in the normal sence, but if you explain it really quick your teacher might not catch on. A lot of highschool physics teachers are idiots (warning: Not always true)
Maybe the rotaty thing that makes sequential gears shift on a motorbike counts as a screw?
Anyway, yeah, shouldnt be a problem. Designing a car is all in a days work for us gearheads.... yup... *ahem* good luck.

Sounds good. And it's not even physics...it's freshman Phys/Earth Science. The idea is great, however, I'm not sure if it can be an already invented object....I was looking around on the net, and a site suggested a mousetrap? Not a striking to kill one, like one similar to the ones in the game Mouse Trap Anyone have any ideas on how to make one of these?
Also, Nereth, +1

Ugh I hear ya, but I just can't think of anything. And I've been thinking since last Thursday. I'm just looking for some ideas, you know? But I understand where you're coming from.

Actually i was more making a joke, since I couldn't see a high school student design a car. But yeah, you can give me rep anyway.
Also, guys, guys guys guys guess what?
I'm making a car in solidworks (A CAD program) at uni, it wont actually do anything once I'm done, but I'm making it extremely detailed, so it'll be cool to pull things apart and get into more and more detail.
Currently I have finished what I have deemed the pressure assembly, in the transmission subsection. consisting of the clutch plate, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and the 'diaphragm springs', and a shaft for them to spin (or be splined) on.
Its already 1.5 meg. I predict I will need more storage than what I have by default
Also, can someone actually tell me how the anti shock springs in the clutch plate actually work? in the pictures I've seen they're just connecting between two seemingly arbitrary points. I don't get it

Re: Dear lord PLEASE help me!
Don't they connect between the actual clutch plate and the hub part, so that they absorb some of the torque when the clutch engages the flywheel?
i might be wrong.
