No leave the match heads out. What you want are the strike pads. You Know the thing where you "strike" the macht on. It is usually feels like sand paper if you put your finger on it

...and NOT the 'honey-comb' effect ones or the sandpaper type ones - just the smooth brown type, like you get with 'courtesy' matches at hotels etc.

what the striker or the match-heads???

The striker is RP, glue and sand as far as I know the matchhead contains antimony sulfide and pottasium chlorate. It is the act of striking which converts red phosporous into white and white phosphorous spontaneously ignites in the air...(They used to use white phosphorous but that had nasty side effects....Red is safe and stable)

redish brown,the plain brown are useless,unless your into wasting your money and time.iamond brand is ok,ck out store brands as well,waysafe used to be good.
