Default The 'Taken' effect.

-1 for not thinking of a more imaginative name for the 'taken effect'.

But has anyone ever noticed, that if you are going out with someone, you suddenly get +10 sexiness? People hit on you more, they laugh at your jokes and I have found that you just seem to be over all, more of an attractive person.

My relationships come in doubles.

IDK, if it works like that for you girls, but with guys, i have definitely seen this trend.

Is it because people suddenly notice you? Or you get more confidence or what?

It's because people want what they can't have and maybe girls may think that if you already have a girlfriend then you must be desirable.

I think you're a different person when you're in a relationship. You're more confident, and you're not worried too much about trying to impress other bitches.

Pretty sure its because you give less of a shit about any of the girls you see, because you're taken... They dont see you seeing them kinda deal.

Because they want to piss your girlfriend off by taking you away from her?

That's what they do in all those south-american soap operas anyway.

I don't know why this has never dawned on me! I seriously feel retarded for never coming to this conclusion.

I have always found that I have more attention from females while in a relationship.

I made a thread here a couple years ago about how I actually simulated the "Taken effect" as a social experiment... with sexy results!

In my case, it's not so much a confidence thing, as a rumor thing. Women like to brag about their guys. Doesn't much matter if it's deserved.

That reminds me of Finch's idea in American Pie.

The friend that I did that experiment with (referenced in my last post) did the same thing for me. She basically told everyone that I was amazing in bed, and gave her multiple orgasms, etc.

Yup. In fact when I read this thread title I was all "I bet this'll be about that". Happens all the time. I suspect it's something to do with the fact that when someone's taken they're going to be more relaxed around the opposite sex. That and there's at least one member of opposite sex who likes the person in question a lot - obviously - and girls tend to flock to people in groups or whatever.

Edit: That plus the girl bragging plus the whole "want what you can't have" thing. I'd say between all this, they account for the reason some guys just fail and others are up to their neck in girls.

Actually there's legitimate science behind all of this, and please forgive me if I make some very broad generalities or even have wrong terms. Its late and I'm about to hit the sack.

We have to remember that most folks only use 10% of our brains, and we still don't know exactly how the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious mind works. And science is proving more and more every day about a real live "aura" that exists....almost emminating a "message" of sorts to people you come in contact with. That is why you get "gut" feelings and immediate emotions of attraction or disattraction almost immediately.

Think of how dogs socialize. They are constantly sniffing around to see which dog has been where. Each dog has a unique scent, and humans are quite the same. Is it traces of pherinomes that we leave behind?

So in a sense, yes we DO not only give off a mood, but leave a somewhat lasting calling card behind as well. You just had lunch with your girl, and now the chick at the register ringing up your groceries can "smell" another bitch on you. The attraction develops because the minds assumption is made you are now "worthy", because another being has latched onto you. Whereas if you haven't had a broad around you for MONTHS, now there has to be a reason why!

I know I could have explained all that better with 2 or 3 less bong hits, but hopefully you get my point. And yes this has happened to me all the time as well. : (

The word for that is pheromones. There is all sorts of debate over how much influence they have over our lives. But as I've recently been told that I smell trustworthy, I won't deny that people believe in their effect.

And I am so sick of that 10% figure. It has no validity whatsoever.

Oh really? I'd love to hear why the 10% figure has no validity. How do you explain psychics? Precognition? Deja Vu? You don't believe we all have some kind of mental and spiritual intertwined connection? Or do you think all of that is some kind of pseudo science? As if this is the most capacity our brains have to put out. So where are we right now on the "usage" scale? Is this more like a 95% in your mind?

I get such a kick out of supposed "intellectuals" that believe we have somehow reached the pinnacle of our brain's potential, all because we have these cute little gadgets in the palm of our hands. ROFLMFAO!

There is a busboy at red lobster who would ALWAYS blatantly flirt with me in front of my husband! At first he would just give me suggestive looks and then he started coming over when my husband was at the bathroom or he'd accost me on my way to the bathroom. The last time we went there, the man actually attempted to covertly cop a feel while my husband was right there! (seriously). My husband saw and FREAKED out and he grabbed the guy and slammed him up against the wall. It was awful, I mean my daughter was screaming and crying, the manager was freaking out, the guy who tried to feel me up was practically crying...

Anyway the busboy was fired, but my husband was told he could never go there again. I still can't believe that guy tried to cop a feel while my husband was sittingh right there...I mean talk about DUMB.

Why would a brain developed over millions of years have some form of extra capacity to it? Evolution wouldn't allow for something that useful to be developed. Creationism just says "No" to that. You want to suggest another theory, perhaps?

That is truly a bizzare story. People are so fucked up nowadays. Sounds to me like your hubby is a nicer and more rational guy than me. If he woulda done that to my wife, I would have left in handcuffs...and busboy would have left in an ambulance. And I don't fault him doing that in front of your daughter. Although I bet in the future when its time for her to be dating, it will take a LONNNNNNGGGG time for her to bring any boyfriends over the house......LOL

Interesting, I pose a question.....and instead of answering it you pose questions completely irrelevant to the one I asked. But the answer to yours is because we are STILL developing. And if you think man has the human brain so figured out, then why can't we cure retardation, depression, psychopaths....or any other brain malady? It seems to me with EVERY other part of the body we can just replace or fix (whether its eyes, hearts, limbs etc) yet the brain is STILL a big fucking mystery.

As for evolution, you need to look around and discover evolution doesn't ALWAYS get it right. You are telling me in the millions of years of evolution, nature couldn't have treated seals any better? Slogging around with hundreds of pounds of fat, and its only defense is two measely flippers for escape?

As for Creationism, you only have to go to Genesis. If you believe in the Christian Bible, then find out about the First Sin. Yup, they ate from the supposed Tree of Knowledge...which is the reason Adam and Eve were cast out of paradise. So I guess the Big Guy does really want to keep us meager and ignorant, right?

so if the "taken" effect has something to do with pheromones, is there another way other than the "finch idea" to simulate it?

Here's a question.. would it be pathetic to pretend one had a girlfriend to pick up girls..

I.e. Going into a club and starting a conversation then dropping in something about your girlfriend.

And thinking on the taken effect.. I'm not fussed on girls that have boyfriends, I get pissed off that girls I like have boyfriends, but I don't go after them. Perhaps sewing the seeds in case something goes wrong isn't a bad thing (i.e. doing things so you don't get wrote off as friend only material). In clubs when I'm chatting up a girl, if she drops her boyfriend in the conversation early, I appreciate it.. I know to back out fast.

When I get told after a while of trying to chat up a girl that she has a boyfriend, I get fucked off.. she's wasting valuable pimping time God damnit!

That's because most women, and some men (such as the one in Xiao's story), are too stupid to override their subconscious desires to get what they can't have.

It's called a lack of self-control.

Gotcha....ty for setting me straight. This is what happens when you start reading the beginning of a thread at 2 am after multiple bong hits, and then the end of it during a hectic day at work.

As for the original question of faking pheromones, other than the Finch Idea......I guess you COULD raid your mom's dirty laundry and rub some panties or sweaty gym pants all over yourself before you walk out your door in the morning. I wouldn't recommend it, but yes you COULD do that.
