Re: good thrash bands?
I recently discovered Testament. They're really good. Start out with 'First Strike Still Deadly'.

Re: good thrash bands?
Send More Paramedics are alot like early Slayer (minus the vocals), but I've only heard their album A Feast For The Fallen so if they changed their sound before/after, I've got no idea.
If you haven't heard Anthrax then you need to check them out. I reccomend their stuff with Joey Belladonna on vocals though, from Spreading The Disease through to Persistence of Time.

Testament are the best damn thrash band ever. Once you've got First Strike Still Deadly, get Souls Of Black and The New Order.

Re: good thrash bands?
Don't listen to kreator, they are crap. Vision Divine has some thrash cuts in some of their songs. Pantera has good music too.

Behemoth, Hypocrisy, Death, Carcass, At The Gates, Vital Remains.
Although, some of those are Death metal rather than thrash.
