Default Better smoke mix

Would dissolving KNO3 and sugar into water together, then boiling off the water til there was only the smoke mix left be likely to produce a better quality smoke mix than melting the two together? [pointless info] I plan on trying it next weekend, was going to this weekend whilst trying out some fuse mixes, and while while an AP synth was precipitating, but my portable fridge is on the blink, so I've gotta get it fixed before I even consider synthing AP [/pointless info]

I wouldn't boil Smoke Mix to dryness for a start.

I think melting them together would mix them sufficiently than dissolving and boiling.

Oh and wouldn't the sugar become a sticky toffee mess?

That actually made me think: The trapped water, so long as there's not loads of it, would turn into steam on lighting the smoke mix, producing more fumes.

Meh, I wanna try this anyway, just to see if there's any difference.

Both of them have a limited solubility, so you'd start with a precipitate of either chemical, then some mixed, then maybe some of the other if there was any left.

You're better of melting them together, or making a syrup with the sugar, and adding your KNO3 to that.

I'd stay away from boiling, but you can dissolve them both into water and then recrystallize it.

Honestly though, smoke mix is such a temperamental thing that one mix will work better sometimes and another will work better other times.

Done this several times. I didnt boil off the water but rather let in evap. It works but theres one problem with it. When the water is evaporating it forms big crystal of comp but sometimes gets seperated. For say one pile of crystals may have twice and much nitrate than the other. If its all lit together its ok, its just the recrystalization sometimes seperates the two chems slightly.

The best improvement that has been found thus far... that i know of... is the good 'ol SM+wax... then choked to prevent the atomized wax cloud from igniting from oxygen in the air...
