Library or Buy your books?
I've always bought my books from Amazon. But now that I'm reading a lot more I think it would be better to just check out some books from the library.

I always try and buy philosophy books, otherwise I normally just rent books from the library and then only buy them if I really, really like them.

Re: Library or Buy your books?
My local library has approximatly jack-fucking-shit for books. Besides half the time if you order books off of a site that sells used books on the internet, like amazon, you get them for cheaper with shipping than you could paying for gas to drive to the library and back to get them.
so i just buy books online or occasionally at a bookstore. I love buying used books the best. something about getting them used makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Re: Library or Buy your books?
Yeah I love Amazon. I don't like the shipping costs though.
I jsut bought three books for 11.50:
The Shining
Requiem For a Dream
1984
The order came to 22.84 with shipping...
Atleast I'll have some nice new books to read which should come within the next two weeks!

I like my local library.
Calgary Public Library is set up very well. They have wireless internet, a cafe, a good selection of magazines, and a wide variety of novels.

Re: Library or Buy your books?
So lucky Euda, our libraries are pretty crappy. They do have some good books, though I love most perusing through used book stores. The smell, the weird finds you make, the lack of yuppies, and the low prices make it worthwhile. But I ran out of shelf space several books ago, so mostly I borrow from the library or read e-books instead.

Check BarnesAndNoble.com for books...They take Paypal, have most of the classics under 7 bucks, and if you buy more than 25 dollars worth in one go, you get free 3-day shipping. Highly kickass.

But, if you want something other than clasics they will charge you an arm and a leg.
