my dad and mom are getting a divorce after 24 years. They are disowning all of the kids (me and my 3 brothers) and moving to separate parts of the country.

my parents got divorced when i was like 8 or 9.that one was really difficult on me and everything...my mom got remarried and now they are splitting up right now...once they fix up our house they are gonna sell it and split it halfsies then split...surprisingly this one isnt affecting me as bad...maybe its because he is my stepdad and i can tell my mom still loves my real dad...but im eighteen as well so it doesnt effect me asa much,just that im probably gonna have to move out on my own much sooner then i was expecting because im not gonna be a drag on my mom when shes has to support my two younger brothers.

No, I dont live at home. But my parents have co signed on a bunch of shit. My little brother is going to come live with me for 2 more years. I dont know... Im hoping its just a tiff and they will get over it.

As much as that sucks, just be grateful it didn't happen when you were younger....most of you are adults now, so just accept it and move on as best you can. When I was 9 my family went through alot of shit and nearly split, and let me tell you, it is NOT good for a 9 year old's head!

My aunt (mothers sister) still lives with my grandma, my mothers mother and she is 32. I feel bad for my grandma, she is kind of stuck not knowing how to get rid of her, and also the fact that i live there(16) probably doesn't help the financial situation. Ok now back on topic.

Wouldn't your parents get in trouble if the disowned their own child that is under age, since it is their responsibility till hes 18? Or in the courts eyes are you now his guardian?

Dude, as tempting as it would be to be the cool big brother and let him do anything he wants, it will end up in some sort of disaster.

I had a friend who's parents won the lottery (he was 17 at the time) and they totally changed them. They almost immediately got divorced and found themselves so distracted by their newfound freedom that they just let their son (my friend) do anything. His dad also bought him a beautiful new mustang. It started slow, he started partying a lot, binge drinking 3-4 nights a week and doing a lot of coke. One night he got caught driving at almost twice the legal blood alcohol limit, he ended up with a monster fine, two year license suspension and a stint in rehab. Upon retuning from rehab his mother surprised him with a brand new BMW and allowed him to drive it even though his license was suspended. One night he left a party drunk as fuck and coked out of his mind (or so i'm told, I stopped talking to him when he became a coke addict) and ended up killing himself in a car accident.

Sorry, that was a bit on the long side but I thought that if you heard a story like that perhaps you would spend a little time thinking about raising your brother right, perhaps put some boundaries in place for him. He already got fucked by your parents, don't screw him over the rest of the way.

At 16, your legally responsible for yourself in UK anyway. It'd still be pretty hard getting by for a year or two anyway, because in order to live on your own you'd have to get a poorly paid job and potentially have to give up on education. From there unless you get a lucky break you're not gonna have much fun.

To the OP: Kudos for looking after the kid, try and get to know him as a brother. I'd say be yourself as much as possible and I'd hazard a guess and say you're gonna be the drinking/partying type. If this is the case, raise him on it.. it'll be a good way to get to know him, but limit it.

I.e. Know he's 16 and that he should have other responsbilities like school and stuff and that he should have some ambition.
