Um, houston we have a problem.

ok, i boiled my H2O2 to 1/10 of it's volume. I put the acid in there and closed the cooler thinking i'd be waking up in the morning with maybe 1 gram.

A half hour later, i went to check up on it...

The solution was pure white, and there was no sign of water. I think it was 99% efficient. I took a small amount to deflagrate, and it definetly is AP.

I'm worried though that it isnt trimer, what is the best way to discard a large portion of it safely?

I know there is already an AP Thread, but i thought this would get more attention.

p.s. theres prob 50 grams, and im getting worried.

Dude, the trimer dimer thing is stupid. The difference between the two, as in, which one forms when is way too small to matter. I've done all kinds of tests and AP is AP is AP is AP. Period. What you should do is wash all that shit, and seperate it into a few piles and let it dry. You will be fine if you use common sense.

And how did you expect a gram and end up with fifty? You need to learn to write everything out first, and KNOW the yield, not just guess.

nono, you got me all wrong, i didnt exactly guess the yield. I guessed the yield within a 12 hour period. I usually never let it synth very long and i collect what i can get under a small time frame.

Probably too much acid... possibly too hot... since you wern't stirring at various times all night the crystals are probably a bit bigger than mine generally are... small crystals are more stable.

I use very very little acid, generally less the synths recommend and let it react for a really long time with me stirring often. But hey, thats me... or well that was me...

meh i can make 50 grams in 5 min and have done so .. 30 min isn't that bad problem is it gets warm and you acetone evaporates this is why we use a ice bath .. and i now add acetone to my h2o2 and acid slow in a ice bath

I do the synth very slowly. I add the reactants together by use of a dropping pipett with constant stirring. Also i allow the reaction to take place only under 10C and most of the time at around 5C.

Last time I made AP I used a dropplet but I got tired of using it casue it was going way to slow. I would have been there for hours trying to add that acid and even paced intervels. I just poured it in a lit at a time and made sure it stayed under 10C.

Just whats happens when it gets to hot?
I rememeber reading about AP evaping and reforming of container walls and creating a unstable form. Would it not do this if desolved into acetone and let the acetone dry? Its both at a warm temp but i dont know.

Anyway was wonder what the ration for AP:AN was for it to be fuse sensitive. And would it help any or be any better if I used NH4KClO4 about 50/50 with AN in there to or maybe just by its self? Since those tannerite targets supposedly have it iin them with AN.

Stronger, more concentrated reagents will give you a faster, more efficient synthesis. Like SN said, AP is AP is AP is AP. If you've got 3cm crystals then it's time to start worrying.

How much of each reactant did you use? I really doubt that is 50g.
