Default dating someone who can't have kids

this thread is inspired by a misinterpretation of a thread title that got me thinking.

if you found out that someone can't have kids, or is somewhat reproductively challenged, would it affect your dating them?

I would love to say "No, not at all, that shallow!"...but I dont think that would work for both sides of this.

On one hand - if they couldnt have kids, then no - I wouldnt worry about dating them. That much doesnt bother me at all!

On the other if they couldnt have sex at all - it could pose some problems - everyone has need and all. Even if I tried I think in that instance that it might all break down in the end.

^That's nice I'm sure.

As for me, I dunno. I want to adopt anyways, I haven't really thought about actually having kids, birthing from my loins and what not. I think the only reason I would have a kid is if my husband wanted to. Because like this thread implies, it's incredibly important to some people. I'd be willing to sacrifice my abs. =(

dating a sterile guy wouldn't bother me too much i don't think. definitely cuts the cost of birth control.
as a long-term/life partner though, i can't say it might not cause some issues. i really want kids. it's definitely something that's important to me. i know there's adoption and everything but i've always had this plan of having my own little babies with his goofy features. i don't know, i guess it wouldn't be unsolveable, but it might throw a kink into things. no, not that kind of kink.

I would prefer that the women I date are sterile. Getting stuck with kids is one of my greatest fears.

Hell no. I don't want kids anyway. Of course, I'd tell her "I love you, and that wouldn't affect our relationship. I love you no matter what...you know that...." But in my mind I'd be saying "FUCK YES, NO BIRTH CONTROL, NO CONDOMS, NO BULLSHIT! CREAMPIES FOR ME!"

Ah...

I'd agree with you a hundred percent. I can't shake of the feeling that this makes me a bad person but meh.

It'd present some issues later on in life, but... I wouldn't let that get in the road of a relationship.

it definitely depends on the age group in this situation, im assuming that you are talking about an older relationship, in which you would be thinking about having kids, and in which it would not effect me at all, actually when i get older i dont want to have my own kids, it flat out scares the hell out of me

yeah lets throw this into perspective...she cant get preggers so that means all of the non-protected sex you could imagine. and if fathering children was on the agenda adoption is more than a good decision. the only problem i could see was if their sex drive was too low or youre focusd on having a child...that you specifically made.

I agree. I'm seriously thinking about getting snipped when it's safe to do so, around age 25 or so that way I'm fully matured and won't run into any problems from lack of testosterone or anything. I'm fairly certain I never want kids.

interesting...

i'm somewhat challenged in the reproductive department: it won't be impossible for me to get pregnant when i want to but it might take a lot longer and i could have to get ivf.

i tend to tell people that i don't like kids and don't want them to protect myself - later on they'll think it's a choice and not because i can't.

i know that my boyfriend wants kids one day. i'm nowhere near marrying him or anything (i'm only 18) but i wanted to know what would it be like for a guy that wanted kids to be with a woman that can't have them.

seems that guys are just happy about no birth control.

You guys are only looking at this one way. My current gf can't have kids. She can physically get pregnant but she and the child will die before birth. Not really so cool when its like that...

How does that workout?Confused

wouldn't it just mean that she's not able to carry the baby to full term? pregnancy's tough on the body.

just a guess though, could be wrong.

Surprisingly enough, I dont think I would date a girl that couldnt have kids. I'd end up getting attached and it would fuck me over later.

I honestly don't see it as being too much of an issue, sure, you can't have your own kids, but that shouldn't matter if you like who you're with enough. Adoption's always plausible, anyway.
