"Hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders!" or taking a stand of sexual politics.
Most of you know my opinions on abortion (ie somewhat to the right of Thoma de Torquemada).
Recently I have come to the conclusion that I need to become a bit more 'politically' active. You know, maybe host some stuff, pay some membership fees...that kinda thing. I'm a bit too old to really want to get involved in the more militant armed struggle.
We get a lot of very strong opinions voiced here on all areas of sexual issues. And I'm just wondering how many actually take their views outside totse.
For example, Xiao has posted several times that she has helped out in a 'family planning' clinic.
Others I know have gone on 'Gay Pride ' marches , bought the t-shirts or worn the AIDS rubber arm bands.
Do you make a stand, do you stand up and get counted?
Have you written to your congressman demanding Lesbian couples be allowed to adopt? Or that they shouldn't? DO you get involved in the local Klaven's Annual Fag Bashing?
Do you bake for the ' Elderly black Lesbians' cookie drive?
DO you sign petitions to give out free condoms to school kids, campaign for a woman's right to choose, dress up in DC Comic Heros costumes and protest for father's rights? DO you fight against the censorship of kiddy porn? DO you actively report kiddy porn sites?
I'm going to stick this for a bit, just because I can:P and because i'd kind of like to build up a bit of a reference for future linkys.
REMEMBER this is NOT a thread about the rights and wrongs of any of the causes I have mentioned. I have left my soapbox at the door and you will too.(if you feel the need for a pro/anti choice rant then there's a thread in B&M at the moment where i've posted too).
btw, the german is a famous quote by Martin Luther, which he reputedly said when asked to recant his beliefs in court. Means simply 'Here I stand and can do no other than that /different/more'

Stand up and be counted, to become only a statistic. What are the politics of boredom?

Mate, I support gay marriage and am into underage sex. I don't feel like actively pursuing them politically, because I don't feel it's completely necessary. However, if anyone was to ever say 'support this easily' (as in my signature or a small amount of money), I would.
I love what I believe, but I don't think everyone needs to believe it.

Condoms for schoolkids, a grand idea. I was too embarressed to buy them at age 15 and pissed fire for a while as a consequence.
I have no issue with early term abortion... late term abortion doesn't seem quite compatible with "killing of an unborn child" being a crime. It also disagrees with my sense of right and wrong.

If there's a petition on free condoms or birth control, I'd definately sign it. For the rest, not that much.

Re: "Hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders!" or taking a stand of sexual politics.
This whole thread is a HUGE grey area, because how are you supposed to divulge your actions WITHOUT showing your soapbox? Fuck it, I'll try anyhow......
I've VERY vocal Pro-Choice, so much so that I've ruffled quite a few feathers in my day. I also enjoy verbally harrasing (and sometimes throwing things out of my window) at the picketers at abortion clinics. Years ago when our town opened up a new strip club, for months a bunch of churches had rotating shifts where daily they had picketers on the sidewalk of that place. Now THEY were a lot of fun to pick on.
The only other thing I can think of was voting in 2004. This was the first time I even registered, being eligible for 16 years before that. The only reason I did, was because I lived in a state that was voting against gay marriage....as well as Bush's hardline stance on it. In my opinion that was the only legitimate issue that had a profound societal impact for years to come, or would effect myself and my family in the least.
Obviously you can tell I'm not a Bible thumper weirdo freak, considering my stance FOR abortion, yet against gay marriage.

I'm thinking about getting involved in some political groups, but I'm not what the right one for me is just yet. Umm.... does violent activism I may or may not have done when I was younger count?

I'm voting next year and helping out at our local Democratic office (which has a hilarious life sized, sun faded Bill Clinton cardboard cutout in the window)...
But I don't really like bothering people with my opinions, especially since I don't think that it really convinces people. Then again, I'm no expert.

I'm complete scum.
I vote for BNP and descreetly post pamphlets through peoples letters boxes. This is in a pure and unholy hatred of illegal muslim men who come to this country with their five wives and then claim benefits for the lot of them.
I'm looking forward to a future of blowing up scientists who experiment on animals and raping the wives/mothers/sisters/daughters of people who are against abortion to see how it feels for them when the knife is turned.
Apart from that, I'm a placid, happy loving person with no soapbox tendencies.

Unfortunately some of us anti abortionists have been there. But you know, I don't think I or my wife ever saw it as a valid reason to abort the resulting child. I was simply content to visit the sins of the father upon the father.
And trust me dear, when I visit....

Re: "Hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders!" or taking a stand of sexual politics.
I'm on the side of early term abortions being fine (I hate the terms pro-choice and pro-life) and I don't mind making people angry about it.
I'm for handing out condoms to anyone who might want them - I certainly don't think ownership of a condom makes one any more likely to go shagging about the place like a loon (that's hilariously similar, I have just noticed, to the NRA's line that owning a gun doesn't make one more likely to go around shooting the shit out of people.)
I'm completely neutral as far as homosexuality goes - it feels weird to say I'm pro-gay etc. I reckon I'm pro-equality and tolerance, so in that regard, go ahead and do whatever you like sexually as long as it doesn't hurt someone (so rape and paedophilia are out of the window.)
Having said all that, I don't actually jump on any bandwagons or go on marches. Says something profound about apathy, I'm sure.

Re: "Hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders!" or taking a stand of sexual politics.
Not really, I don't actively go out and protest my opinions in a conventional way. And it’s going to sound really cliché but if I want to make a point about something then I do it through art/photography. The audience that sees it isn't big, but then again the idea isn't to sway thousands into listening to me, but more to get people to think for themselves on the agenda.

Re: "Hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders!" or taking a stand of sexual politics.
The last thing I did was probably volunteer at the gay pride festival.
Me and my dyke friends decided to put in a bit of help.
I manned(or womanned) the stall, gave out free information leaflets on stds and support groups, and handed out condoms too. I did a bit of other stuff too.
I was thinking about asking for work at the sexual health clinic when I'm less busy. That's because when I went there for birth control and advice, they gave it to me, and helped me out loads. I didn't have to pay anything for the doctor's time or resources, and it was all confidential. I want to help people like they helped me, although I'd probably have just a menial voluntary job. And the bonus I'd get out of it is having something nice for my CV.. so it's a great idea.

Re: "Hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders!" or taking a stand of sexual politics.
I have a large distaste for those who feel the need to prance around with signs stating their political views. Im sick of people protesting the same things, and spouting the same inane bullshit. Nobody has done shit to change anything, and nobody organizes into what i would consider a decent political movement, instead joining small factions to bitch and moan among themselves.
Plus lets be honest, there really arent any political causes that i feel enough kinship to to put myself out on a line. Ill fight for my friend, my family, and the things that i really care about. But you sure as hell arent going to see me out marching for somebody elses cause.

Re: "Hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders!" or taking a stand of sexual politics.
There was recently an anti- gay and lesbian protest public forum thingy in my city. Held by like this organization of little fascist punks, i don't know? Sort of like the young republicans you get in America maybe?
But the point is, though I am not gay, me and several of my friends (also straight) joined a large group of queers of both sexes in a counter-march.
I.E. We walked in on their little congregation wearing the T-shirts, waving the banners, and generally raising hell. Some of the homophobes wanted to get violent, but most of it was resolved with (sometimes abusive) shouting. Eventually we just parked there and refused to budge, while their speakers were looking decidely thrown off by the fact that he was preaching the evils of homosexuality in the presence of a large group of them. (And various supporters ;))
Dont I feel like a hero...
Signing off, passing out.

How CREEPY is this!......just as I was about to open this thread for a quick "butchers" (Englishism) the Lib Dem man Knocked on my door to ask about my political leanings and could he count on my vote in the forthcoming bi-election.
"Course you can matey said I," just as soon as you clarify your immigration policy!
"How do you mean" said he.
"Stop letting the buggers in and send the last half a million back to where they came from" said I as I shut the door.
On matters of my sexuality, no I an not politically active. I have enough trouble being sexually active.

i know a lot of clinics around that have free birth control in all forms--pill, condom, patch, shot, etc., not to mention free sti testing and whatnot. granted it's canada and our health service likes to prevent little oopses, so i don't know what it's like in the states. but i'm pretty grateful for it because once i moved out my parents stopped paying for my pill and i wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise. it also helps kids who are too embarrassed to talk to their parents or a doctor about anything to do with sex and would otherwise go along believing that the pull-out method would see them through.

I don't partake in any mass political action. I'll voice my opinion though. I am about as open in real life as I am on here (unlike some of you weirdo mole people who use this place to vent), and I hope that can encourage other people to be more open and honest.
The biggest stand I'd ever made is when my ex girlfriends grand mother walked in on us. I was 17 at the time and very much in love with her, (I'd taken her virginity). Anyway the old woman was giving my gf an earful then she turned to me and said "and what about you? do you think this is ok?" I just gave her a confused look and said "well..yeah...".
oh and as for abortion, people can kill their own foetuses if they want, but I will let no woman or doctor kill my unborn child. My sperm is a precious gift>=(.

Re: "Hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders!" or taking a stand of sexual politics.
Strongly pro choice.
Strongly pro gay marriage.
Strongly believe the bible has no right to dictate our laws.
Other than that, I believe that polarisation of opinion in our society today, combined with or as a result of political correctness, has resulted in a lot of mass hysteria.
Case in point: pedophiles. They're not the best people in the world, but I strongly feel that they are not the slavering monsters almost everyone says they are these days.
Same deal with discrimination. There's a lot of discrimination both ways, and I feel we're not going to get anywhere blindly slapping more discrimination over it. (eg, gay pride, black pride, women's pride, in fact almost any minority).

Things are liberal enough in Canada that I don't see a need to take a stand. Most of the country's attitudes and legislation fall in line with my opinions.
Pot is the only thing I ever made political stands on, but that was more for kicks and giggles than anything else.

I don't really do much. The people that complain about abortion are too ugly to get laid anyways, the people that rouse pro-choice are just a bunch of bored college students....
I don't care.
