I believe the administrators already ban people asking for child pornography.

I own a forum that uses the same software, and I allow moderators to ban users temporarily until I approve it. Perhaps the admins could do the same thing here to get these scumbags off the board.

I don't believe that will happen. If moderators abuse their power, then they should be removed, simple as that. This site has been online for so long that the admins are doing something right, so giving them the power to temp-ban would be a great idea in my opinion.

There is a large enough gap between using mod powers and abusing them that to include banning people amongst them is stupid. For one I can easily see somebody like Metaphysicist getting in a nice self righteous ban frenzy, you know how certain moderators believe in SRS fkin business?
It would suck to get banned by some vigilante asshat who has ideas way above his station. It might be undeserved, but you're still banned until you manage to hassle an admin into unbanning you or whatever. The admins are here and absent at all sorts of times too, so the length of such a "temp" ban is also questionable. They also aren't going to give enough of a shit to care if you really were banned for a good reason or not.

AFAIK the moderators "moderate" discussion and keep it on track... they don't choose who partakes in the discussion. Also, a portion of the moderators are total fucking idiots. And right now, I don't really care, because they can't do anything of real note without taking it up a notch to someone who really can kick you in the nuts. Letting some of those speds ban people themselves? That's asking for troubles.

Any totsean taking pride in being a paedophile is quite frankly very disturbed. It affects you because of the law. This site and the people using it could be in trouble if people are posting that kind of material. Remember, your ISP can kick you off for anything they want pretty much, they don't need to justify it in a court, and while thats nowhere near as bad as a criminal conviction, its still enough of a pain in the ass to justify banning anyone involved with such material. That, and the fact that pedophiles are just sick freaks that have no place anywhere except a bodybag.

With this software, you can select a time for the ban to last. The admins could give the power to moderators to ban people for only 24 hours while they look into the situation.
