The Stock Thread
I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where people can post certain companies they think are good choices for investing in. Be sure to have the name, symbol, market, and current price at the time of your post.
Also since this is a topic where one can foresee quite a lot of arguing back and forth, try to keep that to a minimum. Saying and explaining why someone else is wrong is encouraged, but try to keep from going back and forth with pointless flames.

Re: The Stock Thread
Nice pick on rocm a few months ago. That one basically skyrocketed in a matter of 3 months.

Re: The Stock Thread
Yeah it did, but I'm beginning to wonder how much longer it's going to keep going up until investors start selling it off for their profit. I'm thinking about getting out one of these days. It's really impossible to know how long it's going to keep going up.

Re: The Stock Thread
I'd say track it as much as you possibly can, then sell at the moment you start noticing significant losses.

Who do you use as your broker? I use Fidelity. They're one of the more expensive ones, $20 a trade, but they have excellent customer service 24/7 with people that speak English and it only takes like 30sec to talk to a live representative. It's the best customer service I've ever seen.

Re: The Stock Thread
I'm using TD Ameritrade. $9.99 per trade and absolutley no other fees. Since i've never used any other ones i couldnt compare it. I've also never utilized their customer services. I dont really like their graphs and the way they present the information, its very non-interactive and basic. I usually use finance.google.com to research stuff and use ameritrade only to buy and sell.

Re: The Stock Thread
First off, use google finance (a google tool)... you can make a fake portfolio to track imaginary money you plan to invest..
Second: stay away from 'penny stocks', stocks that are under 5 dollars... it is very very rare to have them go above 10..
Thirdly, corn is rising in price because of ethanol demands (or future demands).. also look into companies making new types of batteries, there lesser known technologies (like improved batteries) that will rise significantly in price and demand when their research is sufficient for production..
Look at a companies history.. on google finance you can see the graphs, look to see if they are on an overall rise (buy) or fall (sell)
another thing, if you hear about a highly anticipated movie (like spiderman 3) consider buying stocks from that movie production company (mgm, sony pictures, etc)
I forget who is producing Spiderman 3, but chances are it will be a box office hit, even if the movie sucks there will be a lot of people seeing it, which a large increase of profit for the movie company means rise in demand for their stock, resulting in an earning for investers..
