Being a car salesman
So a medium sized family owned dealership is looking for some part time salesmen. And since they are friends of the family, they have offered me the job. It pays 200 a week, plus 25% commission. The question is, what will i do as a salesman?
I know ill be trying to sell cars and stuff, but how...shady will I be forced to be?
for the record, the dealership is on the up and up and they sell mainly new cars. They are also in the car district, and literally surrounded by about 15 other dealerships. So obviously their prices need to stay competitive.
I hear people hate car salesmen the most, right after lawyers.

Re: Being a car salesman
Just talk about the cars. Up play all the positive features. Like "This one right here, is a wonderful car, it has feature a and b" or whatever. If they can't decided between 2, downplay the cheaper one.

Re: Being a car salesman
Dude, if you're on comission and there's only one of that place. Advertise for them, get them lot's of business. Take out ads in craigslist, posters everywhere, get them a little known if you can, it will do you good. Like the above poster said, go into details about positive features, those positive features build the car in the clients mind. Always be as 'happy' as you can, that means putting a fake smile on all the time. Get a litle personal with your clients, not like touching anyones tits or anything, but like talk to them, as if you would talk to a friend almost. If you're on 25% commission, do your best to get you a lot of customers, because the more customers= the more chance of you getting a sale.

Re: Being a car salesman
A Car Salesman must be like a dream job at 25% commission.. WOW.
Sell a couple cars a month for $10,000 a piece and your making more than teachers with Masters degrees.
I wish I had the opportunity you had, but then again maybe you're not as socially inclined as I am, so to each his own.

Re: Being a car salesman
If you aren't very shy, like the cars you have to sell, and have even a small amount of knowledge about cars you can sell them.
When I am 18 I will do this for sure.. its a very good job, and if you are lucky enough to START OUT selling new cars GO FOR IT.
Most the time ou have to work yourself up to a new car dealership, but you are lucky...
Its primarily commision, but if you have a drive to sell do it.. you will get paid 25% of the PROFIT the dealership makes off the car, and more if you sell any extras that the dealership can do on the grounds (window tint, sound upgrade, any type of upgrade)
its competive, approach as many customers as you can... dont get discourages (something like 90% of people you talk to wont buy)
i applied for a few dealerships, but it is hard to find ones that will accept you if you arent 18..

Re: Being a car salesman
I work at a car dealership, and i'd like to point out to the idiots a few things. If he makes 25 percent commission he does not make 2.5k every 10k car he sales. If a mercedes was bought for 32k and it sells for 34k, he only makes $500. Do you get it? I just had to point out some of this shit. Oh and one thing, dont treat your lot attendent like shit, and dont keep keys in your pockets.

Re: Being a car salesman
lol i kinda assumed people knew the commission was off the profit to the dealership, not the actual price of the car. Guess I was wrong to assume that
