Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
When looking at guys who play computer games, a mass amount are, well, ugly. I don't think I've ever seen a good looking mmorpg player, or good looking person who played alot of computer games.
Everyone plays console games at some time or another, that's just a fact of the times, but the people who spend most their time playing games are never good looking. Do you think they have turned to games because of the way society and women treat ugly and unfit males?
Or is one's interest in "geeky" things innate? Is this just who they naturally are? Guys who just find alot of enjoyment in losing themselves in video games? Or can we say that because of the way our western society prizes individual achievement, and because of this traits in a person like being good looking, a fit athletic body type indicate a healthy male built for success, that those who do not fit the standard are subonsciously out-cast by the rest of society, and thus are forced into living in fantasy worlds?

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
nah it dont, its just that most bad looking guys/girls get into video games to escape from reality and live in another world, thats why roleplayers are generally not attractive.

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
I think it's just because they don't care enough about their appearance. If you think about it, most people can look good if they find an appropriate style for themselves.

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
I think most people start playing video games at an early age before they start caring about girls alot. But those who are attractive get invited to parties get girls ect so they develop other interests, those who are ugly stay playing video games.

True, i still like video games, and occasionally may play a mmorpg. But i like to go out alot more.
My advice is that its really not that hard, girls are essentially whores. They like sex as much as we do. Just takes a few drinks to let it come out. Just if you can't get with the hot one, how low will you go.

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
Thats the most fucking ignorant post I've ever read.
HOW ON EARTH DO YOU KNOW WHAT EVERY ONE LOOKS LIKE?
Maybe the people that go to your school that play games and other geeky activities on a regular basis are ugly, but where the fuck do you get the idea that everyone is?
Please, give me a credible source of pictures of a lot of game players or geeks, and show me that they are all ugly, and I wont take you as a fucking moron. But until then, you're logical and opinion is flawed.

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
I think it's a bit of both. It requires an introverted sort of personality, which is probably usually going to be there anyway, which can be helped along by being a social outcast for some reason. But I do know attractive geeks, girl geeks, attractive girl geeks, and at least one geek who is also a severe manwhore.
I'm just a nerd.

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
I agree with that pissed off dude; how do you know OP? I'm a nerd/geek, but I certainly don't advertise it. No one needs to know that I'll play video games a couple hours a day. A lot of people who play games don't just throw into normal conversation 'y3h liek i tota11y g4ined a l3v3l ye$t3rd4y', unless they are talking to fellow gamers.

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
I don't know what to gather from this post really, but from what I gathered, no, looks aren't always a defining factor in "geekiness". At least in my opinion. I would classify myself as a "geek", not really a gaming geek (I was, but I got too deep into computer related things, networking yadayada). And I still remain sexy as can be....

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
My best friend plays video games like it's his job, isn't particularly good looking, and has a really hot girlfriend. He's just friendly and outgoing.

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
I play an MMORPG like it is my job (recently in relapse of the addiction :(). I love video games, RPG and FPS mostly not much into sports. I also smoke alot of pot with my friends. I wouldn't consider myself bad looking at all and I know a few good looking girls that would agree with me. I also lift wieghts and do cardio work on a daily basis.
I think it just depends.
And to confirm my geekiness I am an avid DND player. Most people who talk to me for more than five minutes know I am a total dork.

Re: Does geekiness depend on looks/environment?
Believe it or not - I am into hacking and programming stuff (I don't play games though); at the same time I am the most 'rock and roll' kinda guy around here and girls find me attractive (lookswise and personalitywise). All geeks need not be ugly and not have a life. More successful than me is Digg's Kevin Rose, he looks like a frontman of some pop-punk/emo band. And he's got a goddamn life too.
