Default suicide - very subjective

People often come to this board and complain of having suicidal thoughts. Mostly it's S&A and RI. They complain of a shitty life, relationship etc. Then every one ridicules them. When will people understand that "a shitty life" is a very subjective term. If you're used to luxury and get thrown into an average middle class life-style, that's a pretty shitty life compared to what you're used to.

It just pisses me off how naive people are. Do you think that it's the decision of a healthy mind? It's not. Depressed people have tunnel vision, they have lots of options, ways out, and people there for them. But they suffer from a mental illness that makes them unaware of that.

People need to stop with the "Suck it up, and deal with it" attitude. Shit is only getting worse. People have fucked up perceptions. There are people who have killed them selves and you'd give up a fucking ORGAN to have the lives they deemed unlivable.

Stop with all the needless materialism and luxuries. They are what causes this shit. Look at Ethiopians, those fuckers have fuck all to live for (from our perspective [see what I mean?]) yet they continue to battle on.

My point is: when some one comes to this board and is contemplating suicide, don't tell them how they feel. They know how they feel. Suicide is a last resort, when no other option can be seen. Sympathize with those people that have mentally eroded to such an extent that they see no other option but to end their lives.

Lastly suicidal people are not 'weak'. They are ill. It can be biological or environmental. Not every one is a product of a comfortable home, a loving family and financial security.

Jack, please leave this open. It doesn't have much to do with S&A (the lack of affection maybe?) but if there was any forum that depressed people go to for some SERIOUS responses, it's here.

I was once about to attempt suicide by self-evisceration before I happened to be stopped. In retrospect I really doubt I would have had the balls to go through with it, but damn… It would have made me look hardcore if I had. *ponders*

I guess I really don’t have any major point, much like your post Arquin…… What I will say to anybody contemplating suicide, is that it will be your last action on this planet. So at the very least you can make it spectacular and become that weeks water cooler moment.

All the best. It's probably not as bad as it appears at that instant.

Point is, it doesn't matter if anyone else has it worse, that doesn't make it better for you (think perception). That's the problem with those kind of threads I guess, people just can't relate to other people on the level they need to in order to understand that they are talking to a often desperate person. Instead of trying to understand how or what, they start comparing to their own lifes. People who have it better, create often a mindless sympathy post that doesn't do anything, and people who have less are the ones telling a person to suck it up.

Which is why I believe "suicide threads" are pointless, unless your on a support forum of some sort, were you are surrounded by people who live in the same state of mind.

Totally agree.

When you're suicidal, you aren't so much thinking "No one appreciates me... This will make those fuckers pay... They'll miss me when I'm gone"

People who think/say things like that arent suicidal. They're fucking attention-seeking emos. And they don't kill themselves.

Suicidal people have trains of thought like "Fuck, the world really WOULD be a better place without me in it, wouldn't it?". They actually believe it, like they are doing the world a favour by ending their lives. They generally tell few to no people, and their last reach out might just be to an anonymous forum...

I'm listening to Star Guitar by the Chemical Brothers right now...it reminds me of my first DXM trip. Which reminds me of an observation I made on suicide: At least it's a decisive act. It's not something you do if you have any doubts about it.

If you want to commit suicide, I support your decision. It's called natural selection, let it run its course and everything will be fine.

As for you, I suggest suicide.

Exactly. The thoughts of someone who genuinely wants to die are generally "If I kill myself, I don't have to put up with any sort of suffering whatsoever. I don't have to even think about it.".

Now, everyone suffers. Even if it's insignificant. Work, illness, relationships, boredom, lack of fulfillment, a feeling of pointlessness, whatever. And that's enough for some people to just say "Hey, fuck it. I don't have to do this if I don't want to. Death will be a release. I won't regret it, because I won't be able to regret."

And they rarely tell people. Generally, if they've gone and told someone, they don't want to kill themselves, they want someone to express that they shouldn't and so get their narcissistic supply.

This post sums it up.

I've had suicidal thoughts and that second last paragraph is litteraly word for word what went through my head. I still now and again think about it but never think about actually doing it. Just ponder it.

Well that makes it easy; death is irreversible and can be done at any time; hence, you might as well experience all of your life, as you can and will always experience death alter.

Good post.
I had planned on suicide once for about 2 weeks. I was looking for different ways and decided would want to do the sleeping pills and plastic bag over head but I told my girlfriend about it and she was all sad and shit.I eventually just quit thinking about it though.
I don't believe in a afterlife so suicide would be the end.
I think its stupid how its illegal and shit. If someone's life won't get better or their just in constant pain it is a choice. Its their life let them do what they want but people should atleast talk about it other people.

Suicide, i believe shouldnt be an option because i doubt anyones life is that bad. I myself tried once, not with to much effort and while under the influence, as you can clearly see it didnt work. It made me think though, and even though life is shit and stuff like that you should try to get help or something.

What gets me is the ignorant people who say shit like the above.

What's more selfish, taking your life and putting people through a short period of pain?

Or people expecting you to live a LIFE of pain because the loss of you would cause a short period of grief?

Don't try and feed me the bullshit "it's selfish" thing.

Dude, I could have been much harsher then that. I don't think mental illness is a joke but I do think that suicide is extremely selfish.
Don't go nuts on me because I have an opinion that you don't agree with. Just because I don't personally have a mental illness doesn't mean that it's NEVER affected my life. Don't be so hasity to dish out critism when I never went out and attacked you in my first post!

You have no fucking idea what I've had to experience so stop making sweeping generalisations.

There is no absolute right or wrong with suicide, I think everyone can agree with that. That is to say it does wrong sometimes and also that it does good sometimes.
Some people live realities we can't imagine, such intense emotional and/or physical pain in every second that suicide is a release. Not out of spite or illness, but in a moment of clarity.

Rather than suicidal people being ill, I think those feelings are an expression of a greater sickness in our own society.

Not always. Sometimes you just feel beat, you don't want to do it anymore and would rather it all fade away.

I think it's rather egotistical to think the world would be a better place without you in it. I'd say the closest to that would be that you think those closest to you would be better off in the long run with you gone. But not the world.

The only thing I've ever thought is it's better off for the people around me, family, friends, partners, whatever. That comes from being able to sit down and think of the times you've made someone else's life bad, and then exagerating in your own head until it's so big you realise you've completely fucked them over. I'm lucky in that my girlfriend has crazy good timing.

If she didn't and I actually went through with it, in the mement before it was all done I'd regret it. A lot.

But that's easier to say looking back at it now. At the time, I'd never have been able to say it.

Which is why I believe "suicide threads" are pointless, unless your on a support forum of some sort, were you are surrounded by people who live in the same state of mind.

I think suicide is selfish on both sides. For one it is selfish that people do it although I do totally understand that its because they don't see any other option. On the other hand its selfish of the family and friends to think afterwards that they could have changed things and that the person was being selfish. It's a messed up way of putting it but that's kinda how I feel. I just don't think that anyone really understands the entire issue of suicide, not even me.

It does.

And for so many reasons. I've known people who have actually thought they'd do it as a way to get back at their families, and in some cases that is selfish. Not all cases, some cases.

But then other people I know, including myself, truly believe in the idea of making life better for those around them by kiling themselves. You might see that as selfish, considering the cosequences, but the reason behind it, is the least selfish thing ever. They're reasoning is they're killing themselves so others can be happier. Nothing selfish in the intentions.

And then others do it as an escape. So it all depends.

I dont really care either way.
If someone wants to kill themselves, it's sad and horrible, but ultimately it's their choice. And ranting about it on an internet forum wont change anything either way.

Thing is, we're NOT ethiopians, and it's simply down to luck that our life is so luxurious compared to theirs. But just because we've got fancy stuff and homes and loads of food, doesent mean that mentally life is any easier or harder for us or them.

I've wanted to die.
*shrugs*

If I ever wanted to commit suicide, I would probably look for a few other suiciders, and then play russian roulette with them, allow spectators to bet on the winner, and have it broadcasted live on the telly. This way, I get to enjoy playing probably the most exciting game ever thought of; if I loose, I don't really loose much since I wanted to die anyway, and if I win I instantly become world-famous, schockingly rich, and it would most surely persuade me to go on with my life.

Un-fucking-believable! That's nearly verbatim how I feel during those inevitable periods of depression. I have fairly severe clinical depression (self-diagnosed because no one around has seen me during those weak times). I usually try to stay up and optimistic about life but every now and again it all becomes to much. But that is exactly how I feel anytime I let myself think about life. Luckily I usually get through it before I do something stupid.

I've never been able to hold it against anyone committing suicide. I feel some people do it for stupid reasons, and some were selfish in it, but it's a person's right to take their own life.

I think Jack Malloy in "From Here to Eternity" summed it up pretty well:

"Every man has the right to kill himself. It's the only absolute, inviolable right a man does have, the only act he can commit which nobody else has a sayso in, the one irrevocable deed he can execute without influence."

Of course, he goes on to decry it being immoral, but still a right, and relates it to freedom.

I must state however, I have no pity for attention seekers who are contemplating suicide and publicly act like they long for it. Everyone I've ever known who's done themselves in has just bit the bullet and done it, maybe leaving a note, maybe not. The kids who take a bunch of sleeping pills then go scream to their mom to take them to the hospital I can do without.

What of the young adults who take more than a gram of diphenhydramine to fuck their head so out of the world they can slit their own throat? The only thing that stopped me was a call from my girlfriend. I was trying to carry on casual conversation but I guess she noticed something in my voice. She convinced me to get help...I told my mom how many pills I had taken (and why) and asked her if she could take me to the doc to get them pumped before they started to hit me (at this point, I was just concerned about the crazy fucking trip I was going to experience), she told me to go ahead and kill myself and that she wasn't going to take me to the doc.

Well, I was in the state of mind where suicide seems rational, so needless to say I flipped out. I grabbed a knife, fled a half mile to a cemetery and was sitting in a gazebo by the baby graves trying to build myself back up so I could go through with it...that was it, I was really going to slice my fucking throat open and spray red all over a bunch of dead infants' headstones. Cops showed up while I was saying a prayer, asking my girlfriend to forgive me, etc. I ended tripping balls in an ambulance, laughing with the paramedics and shit, and spent a fun day in the hospital watching Animal Planet. The mighty fucking hippo renewed my spirit and want to live...God bless the fucking hippos. Watching those beasts fuck made me want to plow countless women...about the only reason to keep going at that point, atleast as I saw it then.

I'm done with that depression shit though. My parents can go fuck themselves, same with my ex, and this city, and the government, and all the cocksuckers who think they know right from wrong...they can all go fuck themselves, I'm not changing a damned thing about myself for them, and I'm not giving into their fucking pressure to change.

Reject was that nic garcia? Yeah we've had like 8 suicides this year in my town. I think every teenager is slightly suicidal. I don't think they're all that serious about it unless they attempt. Maybe just setting out tools, but that the redflag moment. I just needed to get a little action and that fixed me right up.

I definitely agree that its not selfish. Even after I've seen what screwed up things it can do to friends and family, it is the ultimate in selfishness to expect someone to stay alive for you.

I also think it is the one freedom that can't be taken.

Choking Victim Suicide lyrics

Sippin on the dragon the other day,
Tompkins Square Park up by Avenue A.
Halfway down the forty and a pig come up to me,
said listen here boy, gotta show me yer ID.
Well living in a police state,
I tell you man, it ain't that great,
I know it doesn't even matter what I say,
but don't ya know there's gotta be a better way?
I'm all alone, I'm feeling bad,
I'm by my self, all I ever had.
I hate my life, I'm such a mess,
I wanna die, I'm so depressed.
And every time I look at you,
I know exactly what to do.
I didn't want to be born, the pleasure all has died,
so now I'm gonna snuff it with a suicide.
Suicide (anok?), it's a better way.
Sit in a hot bathtub, raise a blade
and slit your wrists, watch your life fade to black.
You have this power to kill yourself, it's suicide,
and no one can take that back.
There is no better death than suicide, suicide...
There is no better way...
