Default whats your take on the 'break'

i was wondering from both guys and girls, when your gf/bf says they think you need a break what your thoughts on it are... for exapmle in my case ive been going out with my bf for almost 2yrs and hes left to work on a prealing boat for 6-8months and decided that in our time apart we should have a break...

As far as I see it, break = break-up. My ex and I are supposedly on 'break'...whatever, she dumped me because I fucked up. I didn't cheat on her...but I was off in romance dreamland while she was hoping for me 'to get my life together'.

I have a rule:
Breaks don't exist, don't ask to on a break because i will simply decline the offer. Thanks.

What that means is he wants to go out and fuck other people for a few months, and he still wants you to be there when he gets back.

Break is generally what people say when they're too afraid of confrontation to say they want to split up.

"I want a break" normally means "I can see this relationship going further in the future, but I'm not sure if I'm happy with it, and the only way I can work it out for myself is to bury my cock in that secretary that keeps flirting with me, and afterwards I'll know for sure wether it's worth the effort to keep seeing you".

Although in your case, if he's going away for a few months, he may just be a nice guy, and realistic, and not want to be bothered by who your seeing, who he's seeing, wether things will work out, etc.... You can just go your seperate ways, do what you want, and see what happens later.

Someone had to say it.

what she says "i need a break"

what i hear "there's this other guy(s) i want to fuck but i don't want to lose you because your a nice guy and you buy me stuff so il be back when i get bored of fucking this guy(s)"

when my ex wanted a break i agreed and hooked up with her sister who was into me anyway and whenever we met after that i would always talk about how good her sister is in bed

later i found out the guy she wanted wasn't interested and she wasn't getting any

and then one day she threatened to leave me if i didn't break up with her sister

so i told her to fuck off

Breaks sux. They just prolong the inevitable. Theyre heaps worse than just a straight up dumpage- because youre sitting there twiddling your thumbs waiting for the axe to fall.

Dumpage.

The only time a break works out for the better is if neither person *really* wants it. Both people see they miss the other too much, and they decide to actually try and make the relationship work.

How often does that happen?

As has been previously stated, a break is simply the precursor to the termination of the relationship.

My friend was on a break with his girlfriend a month ago, but they ended up getting back together just recently. He didn't tell me why they were on a break, neither did I care, but it just seems stupid to me.

Never been on a "break", I've broken up before, but the concept a break seems stupid. If you're getting sick of each other what's the use of being in a relationship? Especially if you're in high school, like I am.

If someone ever offered me a break, I would decline and break up with her. s

Taking a break means one of two things, "I'm too lazy to put the effort into us right now." or "I'm tired of fucking you, but I like you, so wait for me while I fuck around on you."

If it's the first one, the two might actually reach the conclusion that they miss the other enough to put the work necessary into the relationship. The second...well, that just doesn't ever work out for the bettering of a damned thing.

Couldn't bother reading the responses, but here is my experience:

My ex decided (alone) that we needed a 'break,' which within two weeks turned into a break-up. She ended up going out with someone else immediately.

She told me recently that she missed me and whatever, but it was too late.

So in my case, the break was really a break-up.

after talking things over his reasons for wanting a break is that in the 6-8 months hes gone hes stuck on a pearling boat so probably wont get to talk to me much, doesnt want both of us to worry about eachother whenever we go out. even after giving me reasons he said he still didnt really wish to be on a break but it was the best thing for us right now
