Knowing things about people through facebook/myspace
So there's this girl I like, and her birthday is tomorrow. I only know that however because I recently befriended her on facebook. Would it be weird if I got her something small like made a card for her or balloons or whatever? If she had mentioned it in person I would do it but I'm a bit hesitant because it's kind of weird just knowing something like that through an indirect online thing. I'm thinking of asking her to prom, but was planning on doing that anyway. So what do you guys say about finding out little details like that about people indirectly? Creepy or OK? I'd feel weird pretending like I didn't know about it anyway, haha.

Yeah i'd say hold off on the cards and balloons. Just stick with a friendly happy birthday. She'll be happy enough that you noticed.

Haha, social networking has really changed with the times... I don't know if it's for better or for worse but it's definitely a lot easier to find out things about people. That can't be good.

I've done it and it works, as long as you know she likes you.

Dude, I've done the unexpected gift thing before. Either she had a level of cluelessness rivaling my own, or she was a better actress than I suspected.
My point. Useless without followthrough.

The key to a woman's heart is an unexpected gift at an unexpected time.
All I wanted to do was make this quote. But VB in it's infinite lameness demands five characters. Fuck you VB. How do you like them apples?

Re: Knowing things about people through facebook/myspace
Yeah, see? When it happens to you you don't know what to do. It's just weird.
I should probably make a new thread but this is related so I decided to keep it in here. Asking her to prom is turning out to be a lot more difficult than I had expected. I don't really see her much during the day, and if I do, I usually pass her in the hall or something and that's it. So I can't really stop her randomly and ask.
I also think she's playing the 'I'm going to avoid you and see what happens' mind game. But that might just be my imagination.
It's getting closer and closer to prom and I just need to do it. I don't want to do it over the phone because that's lame. But what if I texted her saying something like 'hey, I gotta ask you something tomorrow, stick around after school'. Maybe not like that but you know. Good or bad idea?
I don't want to pass this up. I always fuck everything up and I'm not going to this time.

Umm, just grow some balls and stop her in the hall to ask her?

Grow a brain and read my post?
It's not that I don't have balls, I just don't see her more than once or twice a week, and not more that 3 seconds.
I guess there's nothing stopping me from asking her in those three seconds, but.. that's just weird.

Re: Knowing things about people through facebook/myspace
If I were you i would of drawn a little picture depicting something birthday like, then wrote "All this because we're face book friends" on the back. Something cheesy to make her smile.

That's a little too cheesy for me, haha.
Well I went and asked her and she said yes and it made my day. I kick ass.

Re: Knowing things about people through facebook/myspace
Yeah, first on facebook the night before then the next day I was like "how dare you not tell me your birthday was today" and she laughed and I told her happy bday and gave her a hug.
I kind of set the question up. Last night I texted her and told her I had something to tell her and it was very important. The very important part is an inside joke about a friend of ours who always says that. So today I had the same lunch period she did, and I told her it was actually a very important question.. I think asking made her just as happy as her saying yes made me. :)

Re: Knowing things about people through facebook/myspace
Okay, the more I think about it, the more pissed off I get, but it's bugging the shit out of me.
You know how when you like a girl and you can't get it the fuck out of your head and it drives you nuts trying to read her and you keep getting mixed signals?
The more I try to figure this stuff out the more wrong I am. Or so it seems.
If you ask a girl to prom, and you don't really know her, generally it's understood that you didn't mean to go with her as friends, right? Because that isn't my intention.
I need to stop thinking about this and do something productive.
