So its been about 10 months since I've been out of a major relationship and I'm kinda having trouble just...well...meeting women I suppose. Granted, I go to school, work, family is moving, and things are generally busy but it just sucks the big one that (much like Kate) I cant just find a cool, likeable girl. I dont necessarily feel unattractive but I dont feel attractive either and I often find that pretty girls (in any random place that I may be in) are more often than not just airheads with little incentive to think deeper than whens the next house party.

Granted, Im not the catch of the day, Im not all that desirable (Im kinda short, long wild hair kept in a ponytail, described as "grody", nervous when talking to women). Im into books and thinking deep and just laughing at every thing I can. I guess I just have a lot of trouble getting to know people due to a lack of social skills behind my silly and happy facade.

Its just tough when in a social situation and so much is expected of you. Its so easy to mess up and look like an asshole/retarded/ignorant if you simply say something wrong or if it comes out weird.

There's a lot of reasons for your lack of tail. I would guess it's because of your lacking a strong backbone. I would at least attempt to look them in the eye and talk to them like a person. Also, the long hair makes you look like a pirate/douchebag. Sorry, I just think men should look like men, no offence.

Anyway, back to the OP, one problem could be that your just trying too hard, its quite easy too tell when people are comming across as too strong. A a much better idea would be to just socialise round a lot, and when you find someone who interests you, why talk to them and see how things progress from there.

I totaly feel you on that part, my last girlfriend was a girl...ugh, don't get me started, just like you described! I hate it, and I just can't seem to find a girl who thinks about the matters of life or anything at all for that matter...

Kinda goofy. Reads/thinks alot. 'Cept I have curly hair kind of like a fro (Nicknamed bedhead at school) Carries a positive connotation of course. (Nicknamed Big bird at work). But I laugh at everything and seem to be awkward in social situations and I actually avoided them for a while. And my luck w/ girls hasn't been that great.

It seemed that when I didn't care/wasn't trying things would be going my way. I even found out this girl had a thing for me. But as soon as I started trying I would think too much, anxiety was a bitch, I would end up doing something awkward.

For example. Earler this year I was just kind of minding my own business when I started talking to this girl more. She hinted at a movie and I took the bait and we set up a time. Went, had a good time. Things progressed from there. I asked her out. Started thinking too much. Shit wasn't going anywhere and we were back to "friends". But, were not really "friends" were more then that. It's just without all the labels and the thinking and the cute gifts and shit.

I've come to the conclusion that if you have to think in a social situation or when you're with a girl, you're fucked. It's already too late. By the time you realise you're thinking, you fucked up. I think you just have to feel it and let your emotional part of your brain control your actions and not the rational thinking part of your brain.
