Technophiliacs & Technophiles The Technophiliacs forum is for discussing any and all forms of tech and other types of social backwardness. Including discussions of strange home-brewed hardware technology. Where to get good tools. How to make fiberglass molds. Computer hardware and software technolgy, including operating systems, applications, networking, hardware, CPU's, disk drives, and other geeky things. Viruses and Artificial Life discussions. How to write HTML. End user tools discussions and support issues. Gating the Internet with other nets. If your computer is better than anyone else's computer, you are required to post a message explaining why. You'll probably be wrong, especially if you're a Mac or BeOS user, but post anyway.

Buy a better PSU.

Less money on cpu and mobo and more on vid card (presuming its a gaming pc)

I don't live near you so I'm not entirely sure on how your markets prices are but some things you shoukd know.

Don't stinge on the PSU, it is the thing that powers your PC and if it fucks up, you could have $1000 down the drain. (Buy one that dosnt come in a case ike that one you have).

I'd spend something like $100 or so on the mobo (i think). Make sure it is the same socket as the processor. Google some reviews on the chipset the mobo has and makesure they are good.

For the CPU buy something that is 64bit (what isnt nowadays) and dual core. I cant really reccomend much, maybe a core 2 duo.

The video card is where your money should be going if you will be playing games. I wouldn't go lower than a 7600GT but I would say def go higher.

2gb of ram plus. Make sure its DDR2. If your not going to overclock buy some nice but cheap ram. Make sure the brand is known.

From what I hear newegg is good (they dont ship to me so im not sure myself).

Following my guide, get a list of components and post them and we will be able to tell you if they are compatible.

Remember socket type must be same on mobo and cpu. Most mobos nowadays use DDR2 ram so make sure u get that (check first). And you will want the PCI-E version of the vid card (not AGP). Also get a SATA harddrive.

new egg is excellent, I buy stuff from there all the time. Anyway, I reccomend you invest just a bit more, probably not more than $200 extra and get an 8800GTS instead of a 7600 (newegg should have them for around $260) and also get a core 2 duo processor and mother board.
heres a good mobo

heres a great processor

trust me, it will be a gigantic improvement over the 7600 and amd chip
