Default meeting the parents question (mostly for girls, but need guys input too)

Is it really such a big deal to girls? I've been with this girl for 3 months...and now she really wants me to meet her parents....I'm kinda opposed to it. She says its not a big deal, but she keeps arguing with me to meet them....and I just really don't want to...it takes the relationship to another level, and brings you in closer to her family, and i just don't really want to deal with that.

whats the big fucking deal?

You have to meet the parents if you want a relationship. If you're in for a quick pole polishing every now and again, I'd keep making excuses, or set a date far into the future (before which you'll break up with her and go on to seek a real relationship).

When you go and meet her parents, remember to be respectful, but hold your ground. If they ask you what you think about politics/religion/etc, don't be a little pussy. If anything, you'll score points for standing up to her parents. If you end up making an idiot out of yourself (ie, outright arguing with the parents), you'll lose points.

In conclusion, just go and meet her fucking parents. You aren't moving into their house, you're just going to show them you're worthy of dating their daughter.

its a good thing to get out of the way, if you've been dating their daughter for that long, its kind of obligatory...

its not a big deal, just have dinner or something with them, get familiar, ect, make them not have any worries about you seeing their daughter

when i met the parents of my current gf, i was surprisingly pleased, interesting rich folks that were happy i was dating their daughter..

JUST DO IT!

You're going to have to do it sooner or later. Just watch what you say. Do not be afraid to jump out the window if her dad looks at you funny. I know that look. It's scary as all hell.

one reason i dont want to meet the folks is because I'm 6, almost 7, years older than her. I can just hear the parents ask now...."so, can't find a girl your own age, huh?"

which isn't true....I just like to bang 19 year olds....who doesnt?

In this case, you should definitely NOT go meet her parents, because she probably thinks this is some sort of long-term relationship when all you really want is a convenient bang. And "so, can't find a girl your own age, huh?" is true. Her dad will probably ruin your shit too.

For anyone else going to meet someone's parents that doesn't suck, it's fairly simple. Be polite, respectful, avoid physical contact with the daughter unless she initiates it and if so keep it to a peck, and NO MORE unless you want to be chased out of the house with a bat or a shotgun. Look presentable (do your hair, shave, clean shoes, etc.) and for fuck sakes, don't swear. Everything else is common sense.

Unless you see that her dad swears a lot. It's okay then.

Personally I think it's still unacceptable, AND the parents shouldn't be swearing either because that just reflects poorly, but I have perhaps unreasonably high standards. Guess it depends on the context of the meeting though. Sitting at a nice restaurant eating dinner... "fuck this fucking shit" would be inappropriate in most cases.

Personally, I don't see a problem with it. Infact, tomarrow I'm meeting a girl for coffee. And she wants me to meet her parents afterwards. This would be our first "date" I guess you would say. Seems kinda odd, but whatever.
Or maybe it was going to be Friday, after we see that movie.

ya, see...I don't really want that kind of relationship, where i'm close to her family and we're all good buddies and shit.... not that I have anything against them, I dont know them....but I don't want to start being obligated to show up at her family events and stuff as well as my own....

ex: oh its great grandmas birthday, you gotta come...or.....someones in the hospital with [minor ailment], you gotta at least stop by.....or....yadda yadda yadda, please waste more of your limited time........

no thank you.

I'm 17, and I really don't have a problem with that sort of thing. Infact, I feel more comfortable when I know her folks. Although, having to do tons of stuff like that sounds pretty annoying.

Has she already told them that you're several years older than her? If not, you could just say you're 21-22, if you don't look exceptionally old for 25. That would make it a lot less awkward.

If she's already told them, I don't know...I hate meeting parents myself.

And in my experience, girls mainly want you to meet their parents because their parents hassle them about it. They just want to make sure their precious daughter isn't dating a total sleazeball.

I know the mom, and most of the women in her family know i'm 25...I'm not sure if the dad does. and her parents have been hassling her about meeting me, a lot apparently. But still...I just don't like the whole idea...things were fine before.

I know it's hard to analyze a relationship while you're in the middle of it, but I think you just need to figure out exactly what you want out of this.

If you can see yourself staying with this girl for any length of time, you might as well just bite the bullet and get the parental meeting over with. I mean, if she has half a brain she will probably start to see your reluctance to meet her parents as an ambivalence to commitment (which seems to be the case), and might start to question how into her you really are.

Just my two cents...

See it from her point of view. Maybe her parents wants to see the guy she's always talking about?

As a parent I would DEFINITELY want to see who my daughter is dating. And if he's 6 years older than my 19 years old daughter, i'd probably kill him.

...but that's just me...
