I'm usually not scared of much. I guess that's why I've constructed my entire life on risking itself. My brother got me into skydiving when I was younger, I loved it. I rock climb with no gear in Colorado. After college I plan on taking up a series of high-risk jobs ranging from special forces to CIA. While all of this is super duper and dandy there is one thing I've always been scared of: white picket fences. White picket fences have become an embodiment of all that is evil and wrong in the world today thanks largely to the association with the ever so dreaded "settling down."

You see them every day, men completely castrated driving mini-vans. Look at them dance to the rhythm they've started. They'll never change the world. You see them, balding and flacid. All they've left is their wifes, all their wives do is: bitch. Sometimes they have a night out, most of the time they don't. Why, then, do we submit to this beat?

The answer is simple: pussy. Not the good kind, not the sweet warmth you can feel. No, something much more sinister. The kind of pussy you only get so often, only when she wants to. Even then, you're beat after a long day's work. She controls the relationship, you don't. Hence why you're building the white picket fences, bald and limp.

This isn't even including the dreaded: kids. Whe a baby comes into this world it's pretty much god saying "here, why don't you not have fun for the next eighteen years?" Do babies ever do anything but cry and vomit? When someone hands me a baby I constantly feel like I should throw it away. Luckily, I never pass a trash can. Fuck babies.

Then they grow up into cocky teenagers who do nothing but cock off. Awesome, I have a mouthy little shit kid with nothing better to do than insult me. Later, you'll see them on oprah complaining about how hard life in the 'burbs were. Cool, when can I sign up? Does marriage bring anything other than alchoholism?

By all means don't assume all women are this way. Don't even assume all men are this way. Just assume that it could be you someday. You may even want to consider your own parents. Standing together 'till the end, the woman in control. Some call me sexist, I'm not. I just think throw pillows are retarded. Decorative rugs and guest towels make me sick to my stomach. Why waste money on good looking shit when you could live life with it? The standard woman mentality has shifted from living to appearing to live. Ask anyone if they're happy with their relationship and they immediately try to coerce you: "Bob, man, you gotta get married. This place needs a woman's touch." Fuck that! I don't exist to be tamed, I exist to live. I exist to eat good food and live a great life. I'd rather spend a year with a broke ass tribe in Africa than sleep one night in a bed with throw pillows on it. I'll sleep in luxury when I'm dead.

With a woman life gets slowed down. "Settling down" is the first step to dying. Who wants to die? You all see how territorial women on TOTSE are, how often do you hear about their boyfriends in comparison to how often you hear about other people's girlfriends? Think about this. You could be next!

Well, from an evolutionary standpoint, the purpose of life is to reproduce. And that usually means having a wife and kids, lol. But if that's not your bag, no big deal. No one's gonna force you to have 2.5 kids and drive them around in a minivan...And like someone mentioned, some people like their vanilla lives.

I would imagine (when i see the white picket fence) that the family with the white picket fence is shaped to be the upstanding bain washed citizens of americana. These citizens are normally the one who try to convince others to do what they want. You could say this is like the families back from the 50's and 60's. The perfect stay at home wives. The perfect fathers who to their desk job everyday. Both always having a smile on their face. Dont forget the boy who like to play ball on saturdays with his father. You just cant forget that.

+1 to the OP. The whole marriage/kids thing is one big lie, a trap that I won't be falling into. I've felt this way for as long as I can remember, even when I was a kid. I've been trying to get a vasectomy but no doctors will do it yet (I'm 20).

I've lived that life, and I've got to admit I've tired of it already. There are still things left for me to do in this world, which is why I'll hold off on the marriage thing, but when it comes down to it there's nothing like a good woman at the end of the day to make you feel that you've accomplished the impossible and survived ... or maybe I'm just spineless little punk-ass ...

The thing I find funny, though, is that virtually no one enjoys it. They just sit there with brainwashed grins staring at the sky, waiting for a lightning bolt to strike them down in their prime. "I can't hang out tonight, the wife wants me to organize my sock collection." Wow, I bet that's fun. Some people enjoy it, but they were raised to look forward to that, and usually they assume that something's going to happen after they die.

I have nothing against settling down in the sense of finding a good woman to spend the rest of my life with. But I plan to spend that life having fun, driving fast, snorting coke, having sex, running from cops, perhaps all simultaneously(let's hope it doesn't lead to a car crash and/or another arrest eh?). I'll definitely never settle down in the sense of the 9-5 job, white picket fence, and 2.5 kids, fuck that!
