So I swooped in like a vulture and got the girl
About a year ago I started hanging out with two girls. There was the average one who I got along really well with, and then there was the smoking hot one I didn't think I had a chance in hell with. I went with chick A, the average one and remained close friends with chick B, the hot one. Somehow though, through seeming completely uninterested, B started to fancy me. For about two months she was obsessed with me before one of my best mates convinces her to tell me how she felt.
I was completely stunned. A little pissed off too. I felt that I'd shortchanged myself by aiming low and getting chick A. Anyway, I decided that I had a good thing going and I shouldn't throw it away just because somebody prettier comes along. A day later my mate swoops in like a vulture and they become an item for the next 9 1/2 months.
Well about a month ago my mate dumps B for unknown reasons. I'd just broken up with my girlfriend around this time anyway, so I start moving in. Being a friend who would listen, and that she could confide in. I helped her get over him and move on. Well in the past week he's told her that it was a mistake dumping her and he wants her back.
Well I got the girl last night. We're feeling pretty stink at the moment because we're planning on picking up where we left off a year ago. I got her as my girlfriend and I'm happy, but I can't help but feel bad for my mate. Like I stabbed him in my back.
I'm kinda justifying it to myself that she flat out denied to get back together with him so didn't have a chance even if he was trying. There were plenty of other vultures out there too, it was a sort of race. Well it was a party and people do tend to pair up, especially the aesthetically blessed so I had to beat them to her.
I dunno, do you reckon what I did was wrong?

Re: So I swooped in like a vulture and got the girl
Listen, vultures don't really swoop down. They stalk weak or dying prety, then they will slowly land and begin to eat them. They're not hunting birds.
Perhaps "swoop like a barn owl" is more appropriate.

Nah I think I'll stick with the vulture part since there I did move steadily and tactfully towards my goal.
I stalked and slowly landed like a vulture then

That kinda happened to me just now. I had the water all nice and hot for a shower after mowing the lawn and my sister runs in and takes it from me. I just saw a similarity between our situations and thought i should tell you.

Re: So I swooped in like a vulture and got the girl
I left a bowl of Ramen noodles on a chair one time and my dog swooped like a peregrine falcon and ate them while I wasn't looking. And then I felt betrayed by said dog even though she was just following her instincts and I was the stupid one for letting my guard down. You get what I'm saying here, huh huh?

Re: So I swooped in like a vulture and got the girl
I say whatever to be honest. Your buddy dumped her.
If she had dumped him, I would be calling you very not-nice names right about now!
If he gets pissed off, just break it to him gently that he made a fuck up and now has to live with his mistake. You guys are happy together and that's final.
If he takes it the wrong way, he's a baby who shouldn't be playing big boy games.

Well, y'see, vultures aren't the most tactful of creatures. They circle overhead like an ill omen and land on their prey when it's too weak to defend itself/dead. Then they tear out its eyeballs and entrails.
...I wouldn't want to be that girl.

Things people do? Like rape, cold blooded murder, torture. There is a big difference between right and wrong.

God that made me laugh.
To OP: I can understand the feeling of guilt, but if you stop what you're doing with the girl, it'll probably end up worse.
I'd probably say tell him straight. And that since they broke up (if it was on his terms, then he only has himself to blame), it was all fair.
