I see it all the time. A guy has a great girlfriend, everything you could ask for, yet still cheats. I'm talking about the time where some one cheats on their loyal partner.

Now I don't agree with cheating, but I think I can put my self in the position of the people that do it. I figure it goes something like this "If I'm willing to cheat then my relationship is obviously not going very well. If I pass up this opportunity to be with this person, I may not get another shot."

But what the fuck is up with those dudes who cheat with a girl that's younger, uglier, stupider and just plain trashier than their girlfriend? It just makes no fucking sense. Life is about progressing forwards. How the MOTHER FUCKING FUCK is cheating with an ugly ho making you progress in any direction other than a GP swabbing your urethra?

Stupidity baffles me. The ONLY thing I can think of is that their perception is skewed, and some how, in the distorted and twisted world they live in, the person they are with is inferior to the person they cheat with.

Can any one help me understand why people would cheat downwards? Any one ever done it? Why?

Maybe they think this person is too good for them.

Some people have it in their mind that they are too lucky to be with the person they are with and that they aren't good enough for this person.

With that in mind, they prove it to themselves by cheating.

It's weird but I've heard it from many people.

I would assume their parents cheated on each other and the kid knew about it. Usually when their parents have faulty relationships children are apt to cheat. Thanks to this little psychological problem most people usually end up commiting infidelity. Maybe they just couldn't find anyone better and needed an escape from that person?

I love my woman, but I need an escape every now and again. So does she. We've always had a healthy relationship.

Sometimes a few beers makes a person look better, so they might not look any worse than the person's current partner. Therefore, the cheater doesn't see that they are cheating down.

I personally think that people cheat on their significant other with someone who is inferior becuase they want some variety, or a new adventure. Someone could be dating/fucking the hottest chick in the world, but after a while it gets old. Same face, some pair of tits, same body, same sex.

It's more of a "something new" kind of deal. It said somewhere after about a year - a year and a half, the lust and romance is no longer there. So, in essance, they want to experience a new lust.

Instant gratification, a lack of morals, insanity, a love for the new...at least that's why I would do it, if I ever did, which I never have and probably never will.

Uh? It is control, and when you are talking about human nature and society. It is kind of a contradiction, the standards for no civilization are lower. Meaning rape goes, and eating anything at will goes.

People, for the most part want to feel in control while in a relationship. If they're with an intellectual superior, their partner will dominate the relationship.

If they date down, they become the dominant factor in the relationship and have control again.

People don't have a desire to tear apart their prey. They have a desire to eat, which is gratified by food. They may also have a desire to hunt their "prey" which is why we have hunting and fishing.

Although human nature doesn't justify much it does explain why it happens. Since cheating is a judgement call and not a legal crime an explination is all that is needed.

I just think that the concept of two people adhering strictly to only each other forever is bullshit. It hasn't worked in the last 10,000 years of human history, so I don't know what kind of societal cure there is in this day for "adultery." The OP asks what the logic for it is, and quite frankly there isnt one. Attraction is an irrational thing, even from an evolution standpoint. Why would someone cheat on someone loyal and faithful and intelligent and good looking for someone who lacks these qualities? I don't know, but it's been happening every single day for that last thousands and thousands of years. Even when the penalty was death it still happened.
