Not that I can think of, no.

How far would you go?

Would you date someone waaaay dumber than you, or incredibly smarter?

I might like to date someone incredibly more intelligent than myself, once. Whether I'd like it would be a surprise discovery, but it'd be new. Maybe I could learn something.

...as for dumber? No. I can handle an absence of, say, specific scientific knowledge. I could tolerate an absence of education. I could not, however, tolerate someone too phenomenally stupid to comprehend their own asshole after decades of devoted study, who could not learn to tie their own shoes within the next ten years of patient instruction...

...true idiots, basically. I could handle educational differences - hell, I do it every day, I'm an overly well-read moderately-stupid person...

...but if there's no one fucking home, well... I couldn't have a conversation with it, no matter what we talked about, I couldn't connect with that enough to hit it - and I have sorta low standards on the "connection" criteria, friendships and up or somesuch - and I'd have *real* troubles with even respecting it as a living being.

I mean, I've bonded with some hella intelligent *dogs*, for fucks sake. If a human doesn't meet at least some fraction of this.. no, I could not relate.

I've dated girls that consider me more intelligent. I never saw an issue with it, other than when they'd brag about how I was smarter than them and point out ways in which it was obvious.

Everybody has their own skills and excels in their own ways. I'm sure your girlfriend outstrips you in a variety of ways that are clear to anybody that cares to notice.

I dont think i could date a really stupid girl...I have to be able to have an intelligent conversation with whoever I date, and not have to oversimplify or dumb things down for her to understand. I'm not looking for a genius, but just an educated person with natural intelligence.

My friend on the other hand....he's a really smart guy, but his girlfriend is dumb as rock...like seriously borderline retarded I think...but she's somewhat attractive and has huge boobs...I just don't know what they talk about...

well i'm ridiculously fucking smart. like, to the average person, my intelligence seems like genius, although i am most definitely no genius. I'm friends with some fucking dumb people, and i have no problem with that, so i dont think it would be too hard to date someone who wasnt really smart.

all that said, my girlfriends pretty smart, and that def makes it easier.

Most girls I know are dumber then I am. Im not the most intelligent person, but I can be pretty knowledgeable. There is only 1 girl I know that is either as smart or smarter then I am. Unless of course they are as dumb as a rock, which in that case Id just use them for action, Id probably date them.

I can't handle dumb chicks, im sorry. I went out with a younger girl once and the relationship was a failure, the worst part being her marks were way higher than mine. Luckily my gf now is probably smarter than I am, so things go smoothly.

My last boyfriend was smarter than me in a lot of ways. I felt like I had an advantage over him in areas like common sense and knowledge about general things like rock music. But he was definitely a lot smarter than me in math and science stuff. Though I would've beat him in humanities related stuff.

I liked that we kind of balanced each other out that way.

I definitely would not want to date someone dumber than me, but not way smarter either.

Why is it that Totse threads about IQ always end up with the majority of people saying that they're genii.

No offense OP, you sound real smart, ya hear!

Sometimes I use other people's seemingly low IQ's to justify my not being interested. But I'm pretty sure it's not that.

all of the guys i've dated have been intelligent. some more so than others. smart, however, is another matter. they'd all finished high school, studying at university; but only a couple of them were smart.

my boyfriend is the first guy that i've dated that is smarter than i am. he's far more intelligent than me. i like it because we can have intense debates about things, but sometimes if i don't get a reference he makes i feel a little stupid/younger/less well read. i rarely get that from anyone else and am now more aware that i probably do that to other people many times.

i don't think i could go back to dating a guy that wasn't as smart as me. i don't like having to explain little things to people, i like them just to get it. also, dating someone smarter means you can learn things from them, which is cool.

There has to be a good mix of intellect and shared interests. A person can be very smart/intelligent, but without it being something shared it's rather a pointless measure of a person.

Eventually, either way, one is likely to become bored with the other.

Everyone on the internet has an IQ of 150+.

Everyone on the internet is dating a model.

There are no girls on the internet.

There are no intelligent models.

Given these FACTS, we should assume that all of us can survive in a relationship with our supermodel girlfriends, even though they may not be the smartest cookie in the jar.

Although I also enjoy having conversations about something other than music, movies, tv etc.... I have friends and have gone out with girls who aren't quite as smart as I and still manage to have a good time. It would be egotistical of me to choose to have a conversation with certain people because of their intelligence level.

But I do manage to have a deeper relationship with someone who is interested on topics most people rarely talk about.

Aside from that though,,,

I think my intelligence made my ex and my current boyfriend a bit insecure. It's never really been an issue though. My boyfriend now always calls me a nerd and once I got a bit upset, but then he told me it was only because he was insecure because I'm smarter than him. I don't think I am though, I'd say we're about equal. I have more school smarts than him (always got 80s/90s without going to school or trying at all, lol), but I don't think books smarts are all that important...

Even if a person isn't that smart, they usually have some redeeming quality so it doesn't really matter anyway.

I've known quite a few people who were "gifted". Very very high IQ's and well educated. But, one thing I noticed was that they did not adapt well to change.

I find that one of the qualities I admire most is the ability some people have to be able to adapt readily. You know, the kind of person that takes the change and makes the best out of it.

There is strength and character in that, and it is something I admire greatly.

My intelligence gets in the way of relationships I could date a dumb [by my standards] girl for a while, but I could only commit to an intelligent one.

Still though, what is far more important for me is attitude and maturity.

An ex once told me that my intelligence intimidated her. I couldn't understand it because she was doing her masters at the time (I was fresh out of high school, starting my bachelors). I ended up deliberately losing a board game to make her feel better, but I think she knew. Overall though, I don't think it was really that much of an issue.

My boyfriend and I are about the same intelligence-wise, but in different ways. He's the math/science one and I'm the artsy philosophical one. Works out rather nicely.

for a while, i thought my ex was rather stupid. but, then she introduced me to her friends. for a freshman, she was of moderate intelligence, while her friends stumble over words longer than 5 letters.

I have run into problems. sometimes it felt like i was talking to a brick wall (and thus i took some conversations to other people).

How low would i go? About what my ex was. Her IQ is probably somewhere around 105. Mine is around 135(ish).

How high? There's no limit. i hang out with people in higher classes (i'm a sophomore) because i can often learn quite a bit.

I couldn't date someone much smarter (my intelligence is one of the only things I have to be proud of) or much dumber (it'd get too frustrating; I need someone with at least a sort of similar mindset). I think my girlfriend and I are evenly matched.

I'd have some problems dating someone smarter than me; it's an insecurity issue. That doesn't mean I couldn't, and would probably try to learn from her in the long run.

As for the other way around, the only way I wouldn't date someone of lesser intelligence would come from ignorance. I can't stand ignorance.

I could date a stupid girl, though I do have limits to stupid. She would have to have qualities that I don't, such as a social outgoing personality, and the willingness to make me do things I wouldn't normally do.

As for dating a more intelligent girl... Okay, everyone has gone on about how smart they are. Okay. If you say so. I, however, have documentation placing me in the 98th percentile. I'm used to being smarter than 98% of the people around me. It's the only thing that gets me through the day. I think I'd be intimidated by an extremely smart chick. Though, this has never stopped me from hitting on Suze.

Well, I don't think i could date a guy that was dumber than me. I have a tendency to date equally intelligent males. Four of my past relationships have been (without prior knowledge) with guys who haven't gotten more than 2-3 wrong on their SATS.

My current boyfriend is on par with me. I'm the more creative/logical one, and he's the more "current events" focused one. He always knows what's going on, and I can help him tackle anything that needs more than a straight on point of view.

As for IQ I'm in the 92th percentile for adults ages 18-39 according to the WAIS. As for his IQ, I'm not sure. He's two years older than me making him two years ahead of my in college. He graduated with his Bachelors in spring. I excel in my major, and I took a course in his major and was the only A in the class.

I think I catch on to the obvious a bit more than he does...

I love dating a guy that can answer all my questions and I pride myself in the fact that I can usually answer all of his.

He makes me feel real dumb though. I guess compared to him, I am. I'm used to being the smart one in the relationship or on the same page as my other half. So, alot of times it sucks.
