"If you love something let it go..."
So recently I've taken the decision to remove myself from the life of the girl I love. Not a break up per se, just making the decision to give her some space, and myself some space.
We were together, but she's much younger than me, and far away...I expected too much of her because most of the time she acts so much older than she actually is. But I need to give her space, to let her grow up and make mistakes on her own, without me getting angry and upset and jealous. And I need to move on, even if in the back of my mind I want to be with her again some day.
But I know if it happens it won't be any time soon.
It's funny, you only realise how much you actually care for someone at a time like this. It kinda sucks, but at the same time I know I've made the right decision.

From the very little information you've given me i would agree you've made the right choice. Good for you for being able to walk away, i know i can't.

To be honest I am finding this really hard. My instincts are screaming at me to go check on her and tell her I love her and see if she's ok. And yeah I worry about being replaced or what she'll get up to or whatever.
Why can't you walk away? What's your situation?

Re: "If you love something let it go..."
It's a positive thing for you.
She is a positive force in your life, but you care about her too much for the state of the relationship.
It will get easier as time passes. You can't always be a part of someone's life, regardless of how much you desire it. It takes two people to have a relationship. If one person doesn't care to make the effort, then it imbalances things and ends up making the other person feel awkward. I'm sure that you have no interest in feeling awkward.

I appreciate the advice but you're reading it a bit wrong (and making me look sadder than I actually am). She does care and is into me (at least last time I checked:P), it's just that we both know being with each other in the near future won't work out.

That addition was more about me than you. My apologies.

Re: "If you love something let it go..."
Wow, this echoes my current situation almost exactly...
We've been dating for about a year and a half. I broke it off two weeks ago. It feels like eons. I just really needed to get out of it for a while, even though I really think I love/loved her.
Of course, there's also someone else, so I dont' even fucking know. Stay strong though man.

Good move! Sometimes you need space in a relationship. I would suggest letting her do her own thing; meanwhile you can do yours. If it was meant to be you'll fall back together like magnets.

I guess I don't quite understand. Things aren't always black and white, there should be room for various tones of gray.
Maybe you could focus on what you have, instead of what you don't yet have? Try to accept what is, and hope for what might be?
I think that people are so used to instant gratification today, that when things don't happen as quickly as we would like, we become impatient.
Is there more fear in waiting than there is in letting go? ( I think you might want to look at those fears you might have a little closer )
I think that if she returns your affection, it is worth a time of waiting.

To put in perspective...she's 15 and I'm 19. Yes she's very smart, intelligent etc far beyond her age, and 90% of the time I forget how young she is...but there are those times when she's just 15, and no matter how mature she is, she's at the 15 year old stage of life.
Also, the fact that I have feelings for her and the age difference means I almost want to take on parental role, advising her and such through life...I don't really think it's appropriate, considering my bias and such. I want to be her lover not a father figure:P
So I just have to let her find her own way without trying to interfere, because short of flying over there and stealing her away I can't do anything anyway. And she needs to grow up on her own. I hope she makes good decisons in her life and I can be with her again...I've never loved anyone more...but it's her life and I have to accept whatever happens.

Re: "If you love something let it go..."
Dude I did the exact same thing.
She was miserable, she missed me, and she lost a lot of sleep wondering what she'd done wrong. She's the most amazingly selfless girl , and I love her very much, at her request we started talking . The next day she dropped off the face of the earth and stopped talking to me. 6 months later she returns to build a friendship she destroyed. Talk to her before you decide what's best for her, that's what she taught me after we talked.

I emailed it to her...it was the only I could express it all properly. Perhaps I should have called her. I dunno.
Another things that's really prompted this is her starting to drink more frequently after going through a period where she rarely did it all. That and she made out with two guys during one of her nights out, which I took as my cue to leave...
I honestly have no idea what I'm doing...I just have this vague idea I have to wait until she's older for anything serious to happen.

Re: "If you love something let it go..."
I'm afraid that if you love someone, you don't let her go. That cliché is just there to validate our feelings of loss. It would be better put, if you love someone, squeeze every morsel of joy out of that relationship while it lasts: don't worry about anything else, just have fun while it lasts.
Can't help but be cynical.
