Default Blood donation

So, my wee sister was given a form at school to fill out so she could donate blood. I dunno who's behind that whole blood donation show, but I assume it's the NHS. I digress; she showed me the form, and I was somewhat shocked to discover this on it: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v324/Zonkosigs/BloodForm.jpg

This seems kinda borderline legal to me. Are the people in the health service afraid of catching the gay?

I gave blood last month, and I noticed the same thing. I'm pretty sure I've heard (but not 100% positive) that the majority of HIV/AIDS is spread through gay sex. I'm sure it's just a precaution of course, and want to be careful. I'm sure they'd have no problem with a homosexual male giving blood, as long as he knows he doesn't have the HIV/AIDS, and has been tested more recent than he has had sex with another male.

I don't want to get into the old debate over wether or not the gay community are a big part of the AIDS problem (which doesn't really exist here, on a side note), but if it was true, to out and out tell gay men they can not give blood in such a manner is outrageously backwards. Perhaps totse isn't the best place to make a point of something like this, as our friend bazzle shows us but there are a good few people here with their head screwed on the right way.

I agree whole heartedly. By telling them they can't give blood, is putting them down a level in society. It's terrible. It's basically trying to exclude homosexuals from anything and everything. If anything they should be wanting to let the homosexuals give blood, the ones who are disease free of course, to set an example for the other homosexuals. By saying that they don't want any homosexuals to donate blood is highly stereotypical, and is/should be illegal. I believe saying you can't do something based on your beliefs/lifestyle, it's a hate crime.

Yeah. In order to lessen the possibility of the spread of AIDS/HIV.

Preventative maintenance.

As long as you can prove that you don't have HIV/AIDS, they will probably cyphon you.

I'm not allowed to give blood because I lived in the UK.

THIS IS DISCRIMINATION!!!

Naw, I think the gay thing is dumb. Don't they screen all the blood for HIV anyway?

Yes but instead of getting a healthy pint, they get a diseased pint, which they can't use. So if they throw out the persons who are diseased in the first place, they have a higher chance of getting healthy blood.

Yea, Im sure its cheap to test blood and all.

"Nigel, this bloke's blood is infected with AIDS"

"Haha, Roger, throw it out then. Only cost us a cent anyway. GLORY AND HONOR TO THE QUEEN!"

Yeah, but it's not like all gay people have AIDS. And the ones who know that they have it obviously aren't going to give blood. And all the gay guys I know are quite vigilant about getting tested for HIV, so if you have a negative test then I think they should be allowed to give blood. It's not like some straight people don't have shit in their blood too.
