And I'm going to post a few of them. I went to France for a learning abroad program for 10 days, and part of it was spent in a host family house, and another part was in Paris seeing the sights. Well, we're sitting in the hotel lobby waiting to see where we're going, and somehow we get turned to relationship conversation. They taught me a few lessons, and I'm more learned now than ever.

Note: These are all high schoolers/teenagers, so this will most likely only apply to high school puppy love.

Lesson 1: Never say I love you

I heard all sorts of stories about how they were only dating for a few weeks, and then the guy says he loves her, and gets denied.

Ex: Mike and Jan (false names of course) were in the city for an award presentation for their school newspaper staff, and they were with their other editors and staff. The group decided to go out to dinner, and Mike and Jan sit across from each other and part way through dinner, the hormone high Mike takes Jan's hand and holds it. He then proceeds to say, "Jan, I love you." Jan at this point is flattered, confused, embarassed, and mad all in one instant. To make a long story shorter than it was going to be, Jan broke up with him three days later.

Moral of the lesson: Love is a very strong word, and should only be used when you actually mean it.



I returned this morning at 2:00, so I'm still jet lagged, and can't remember, but hopefully I'll remember another one of the points they taught me, and I'll edit this space.

I'm not entirely sure that was worth my time.

Well, you know, I'm sure half of Totse hasn't had a girlfriend, and I'm one of them. So, I thought I'd just throw this thread together with a lesson I learned from the ladies. You all have permission to never post in one my threads again if you don't want. I don't want negative criticism, or positive at that, it's just an informative post. Not to be mean but you aren't in the right position to give advice and the way it seems to be taken here is that you're trying to get above your station.

On a more constructive note, it's a good lesson to learn. And you were right about it tending to be more high school, puppy-love type stuff.

Teenagers tend to be more likely to talk about love and shit because they are on a hormonal high. They are still finding the boundaries between love and lust.

True, don't go round telling every girl you meet you love them but don't be afraid of saying it when you know for a cold hard fact that it's true or you'll be scared when you're older and it will be harder to maintain a relationship. Believe me, I've seen it.

My bad, I made one typo after I was on a plane for 8 hours, stranded in an airport for a day and a half, and had another 4 hours of driving to get home. So sorry I made a typo.
