My sister cried out of genuine concern for my well-being
This is one of those threads that leans more towards the affection side and not so much on the relationship side and especially not the sexual side.
Anyway, I have been living at a group-home for mental health patients lately (which is also the main reason I haven't been on the internet in a while). Today I asked my mom if I could come visit the house, and on the way over, she tells me that my sister was really upset last night. So I asked her why, and to my total shock, it was actually about me.
She apparently was actually worried about me and kinda broke down and even wanted to call me (at 12:30 am). I guess my mom advised her not to call so late since I'm staying at a group home.
When I heard this, it felt like I was punched in the chest or something. It's very seldom that I feel that others actually, genuinely, care about me. It's not really something I'm used to. I mean, my parents tell me that they worry for me, but it doesn't really have that same effect. Especially since my mom has done so many negative things to me in the past that I have a hard time trusting her sincerity. Plus my dad lives like 3000 miles away, so it's hard to really get that feeling from him.
I guess this thread doesn't really have much of a point to it. It's just that I found this to be a very profound moment in my life. I came into the house, and I saw that my sisters eyes were a bit red as though she had been crying this morning (my mom did tell me on the way over that she was happy to hear that I was coming to visit).
I didn't know what to do or to say. I mean, this feeling is rare for me, if not entirely new. I feel so helpless. I just somehow wish I could put her at ease, and make her know that I will be fine (even though I'm not so sure of that my self).
I have learned today that love for someone other than a life partner can be a relatively similar feeling. This may not be news to most of you, but to me, it's a life altering experience.

All I can say is, is that you probably deserved it.

I hope that it was constructive. Maybe you can use it as a basis for building a meaningful relationship with your sister.
Talk to her about it.

Hug her,
don't let go for hours.
Cry with her,
tell her that she's special and that you love her and that you feel so much that she feels something for you.

Re: My sister cried out of genuine concern for my well-being
I've been through the same thing. It's unnerving but really nice. You wish they wouldn't worry but you're sort of glad that they are.
Also, I'm the oldest in my family and I was raised to be a second mom. All I've ever done is worry and dote on my kid brother and sister, but rarely has that come back around to me because we have more of a parent/child relationship than brother/sister relationships. That sort of thing is changing more lately as we all get older. You never know how alone you are until you're out on your own.
Cheers,
Lost

Re: My sister cried out of genuine concern for my well-being
One morning a few months ago my mum shut herself in her bedroom with a bottle of vodka, and started drinking, crying to herself.
She had been in there for about 4 hours so i got worried and went and asked her what the problem was, and she told me it was because she was scared about me harming myself. A group of people from the hospital had just been around to assess me for admission to a mental hospital, and i'd been accepted. Me being so out of it and completely in my own fucking head didn't even realise the impact what i was doing was having on everyone around me. I just assumed that noone gave a shit so my mindset was 'if i make enough of a fuss about it, maybe they'll want me to fuck off so bad something will happen to help'.
I know how you feel mate, it hits you like a swift kick to the balls. The sudden realisation that at least one person actually cares about you, no matter how they might act like you're a disgrace to the world.

What reason does she have to be upset? Are you mentally ill or something?

Re: My sister cried out of genuine concern for my well-being
Hmmm, a thought-provoking topic. I am the youngest and only girl child; I have two older brothers. The oldest (aged 20) and I used to fight all the time when we were younger, then we just stopped fighting.. and then stopped talking. Our only communication was bitching at each other. He moved out of home last year, and lives alone, doing an apprenticeship. He rarely visits home, never calls, has no interest in being part of our family.
We are flesh and blood, but we are worlds apart.
